View Full Version : Chiefs The Todd Haley -- Chiefs HC Thread

He's a good coach & managed to get this team playing decent football. Under Haley, the Chiefs made a very unexpected playoff game appearance by hosting the Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.

But the Haley era ended just seven games ago. Evidently, not all fans agree with Haley's successful ways here in KC.

I unfairly blamed Haley for the blowouts.

The blowouts are all Matt Cassel.

Haley's a douche and probably not a good HC, but Pioli + Cassel are far more responsible for our fail.

Haley burned his bridge with the Hunts though. We'll just have to remember him for all the funny GIFs.

Yep, I'm not a huge Haley fan, but I'm not a Haley hater either. I was fine with him being head coach, and the only possible positive I got out of his firing was that it brought everyone one step closer to blaming Pioli.

Pioli gave him Cassel, Palko, Stanzi

how is that Todd's fault? It's not. We were losing with Palko or Stanzi regardless.

He wasn't a good coach for the Chiefs because he wasn't a good coach. He was dumb.

He was a different kind of dumb from Herm, though. Herm was dumb on gameday because he was a pussy soft bitch who didn't understand that putting the game in the hands of his defense meant you should probably build up a defense capable of getting those key stops when you need them. Haley was dumb on gameday because he was just stupid. It's like he possessed no cognition or rationality.

I will say, however, that if things were different and Haley could have grown from a rookie head coach at all in 2.5 years, he would represent my ideal coach. Young, hardass, no nonsense, respected by the players, and knowledgeable of Xs and Os. For some reason, however, that knowledge could never translate to the field on game day.

Wow dude seriously?

Nobody knew what Palko was and Haley gave him a chance.

His other options were:
Cassel = he couldnt stand him
Stanzi = rookie

I would've liked to see Stanzi too, but ffs.

Romeo is a different kind of dumb from Todd Haley. Romeo is more Herm dumb. Remember Club Herm? You're seeing Club Romeo right now. They're almost identical. Remember how Herm's defensive focus to the HC position made our defense a "better tackling unit?" Same here. It's almost like the defense doesn't give a shit anymore.

Romeo is also extremely conservative on the sideline. Not like Herm, but almost as bad.

I'm 100% convinced that Stanzi absolutely sucks. I think we got Palko because Palko was better. We'll get Quinn, who also completely sucks, when Cassel gets the hook because Quinn's complete suckage is still better than Palko's. I was, is, and will continue to be a Haley supporter. For once we had a young up and coming coach who could call our own instead of getting washed up has beens. I really wished he would have given the offense over to someone else, eased up just a little, and realized you don't have to go for it or be super tricky all of the time.

I don't blame him for the great Palkizy fiasco. He was our backup QB and it was only a couple of games. You don't bench a QB for a rookie after four games. The whole "walking on the field" thing was exactly what I want from a coach. Mike Tomlin does that shit all of the time but no one bitches about him doing it.

Haley showed that he cared about the team. He had fire and guts, something we have been missing in KC for a while. With a better QB and some growing on his own he would have been fine.

I'm pissed we kept Pissioli and fired Haley. Haley hated Cassel and Pissoli loves him that's all that needs to be said.

(Wow, I could have saved my fingers and just typed that last line first.)

I think Haley got too much blame. Certainly his people skills were not always the best, but sometimes its the jerk that can get the most out of people. Pioli chose the coaches, the defensive scheme, and gave him no depth especially at QB. Having Tyler Palko as a backup is inexcusable. I also believe he was under orders not to play Stanzi. We even saw an argument on the field with Zorn about putting Stanzi in. I don't think his decision to forego team prep in favor of conditioning last year was the right decision. These guys are professionals and should be expected to come in ready to go.

We couldn't come up with someone off the streets better than Palko? He was a Haley tagalong from Arizona as for all I know. I don't know but what I do know is Pioli & Haley should have never had Palko start a NFL game with the Chiefs. Palko was on this team pryer to last year and the hold out so they had plenty of opportunity to find a decent to standard back up QB let a lone one that could push Cassell for the starting job. Fail = Pioli on that and also fail = Haley as he was the HC who couldn't get this team anywhere close to improvement with what he had to work with. This year? No, I don't. They have too many issues with their offensive line, aging defensive line and running game.

They've had really bad luck with offensive and defensive lineman in the draft the past several years and it's caught up to them. Also, the fact that Ryan Clark is unable to play at Mile High not only hurt them last year but hurt them this year as well. And Polamalu looks done and unworthy of that huge extension he received.

Now, I'm not saying they "suck" or any such nonsense. But they're definitely on a down cycle and if they fail to win 8 games this season, I wouldn't be surprised if they implemented more changes.

isnt that what has happened this season? with a new coach? with new training camp and offseason propaganda? with new draft picks? new FAs brought in?

weren't we suppose to be much more improved than whatever Haley had to work with? Werent expectations this year much higher

and we have got blown out and embarrassed much worse this season. And Haley is not a factor anymore.

So what's the constant for both seasons then? Scott Pioli's poor micromanaging. Not Haley.

Who is "we"? I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that Haley was begging Pioli and Clark for a new QB. And you don't need a crystal ball to determine what the answer to that question might have been.

I mean, really, did Weis leave because he hated Haley or because he knew the situation was hopeless with a talentless, permanently intrenched hack at QB?

This team has become a turnover/penalty/minor injury machine since he left.

I will always believe that the only problem this team has had since Pioli took over was Matt Cassel.

Everything else is a byproduct.

If Pioli had supported him and continued the search for a good quarterback to give the team a shot, Haley would have had this team in the hunt every year.

No pun intended.

I hated his shotgun draws, he was in over his head, and too arrogant to really succeed in his position. One thing that I do believe is that (outside of the 2011 opening games) he could fire the players up and get them to play 100% for almost every game. (Something that Romeo is woefully unable to accomplish.)

Pioli is definitely the problem, but I don't know, I think people are starting to romanticize Odd Todd now that we have the disaster of Romeo.

The thing is, you and others that complain of Haley's tirades often seem to be yelling your own tirades at this team just like Haley did.

When I read your posts, most of the time I visualize caps because you seem to be yelling. Not that it bothers me, really, I just see you as a hypocrite who thinks there is not, or should not be any yelling by football coaches and that is just completely wrong. I never had a football coach that did not yell at players/coaches for fucking up. It's a very emotional game.

Would have been nice to see what Haley would do with a legit QB. Of course, it was a major mistake for a first-time head coach to be his own OC and I never liked the coaching staffs he assembled so all of that would have to have been fixed, as well.

I would have liked Weis to stay and all that, but I would not say Haley or any coach is making a mistake taking duel roles. Plenty of successful coaches have been their own OC and won championships. Jon Gruden, Mike Holmgren & Sean Payton, to name a few. So, there's really no integrity in your statement regarding this.
