Best of.luck buddy.

I havent been close with my dad, either...our conversations usually end with yelling or something and the guy is tough as nails and never surrenders. (haha wonder where I get that from)

Despite having Polio, he has worked for NASA and numerous contractors for NASA over his life and retired before he hit 50 and has never had to worry for a second about money. He helped design some of the parts of the STS1 and has lots of awards on his walls from back in the days.

I can say this about him, he has always been a good compass for me, even if most of the time I didn't like the advise...I tried my best to apply it.

I am going out there on the 29th and I really hope he pulls through this...

Yeah - you're obtuse. Fix it, douche. He's an old man and even if he pulls through this one there's not much time. Sent some words up to the big guy for your old man and the repair of that relationship. You don't want that hanging over you. Wow. Listen to me. Jeesh. I need to probably read this again myself.

Yeah, I know and it sucks that it took something like this for either he or I to bury the hatchet. I talked to him last night for awhile and let him know he was right just about every time we argued and he took the high road saying maybe I was right and he didn't want to admit it...as to be expected. Still waiting for someone to call me to let me know he is up this morning so I can call again and hoping for the best.

Quick update...He made it through the night just fine!!! He is going in for an angiogram (sp?) right now to see where the blockage occurred and what can be done going forward, but he seemed optimistic and upbeat.

Thanks again everyone for the support both in the forum and in PMs...it really means a lot to me.

The medical technology for this kind of thing is simply amazing now. He should be fine and hopefully be around for a very long time.

Best of luck to your old man. Mine went through some similar stuff, actually had a 90-something percent blockage, and the dr's actually referred to his type of blockage as a widow maker. He had minor heartattacks along the way. Long story short, he pulled through and has overcome some even bigger crap since. Medical procedures and technology have really come a long way.

Great news he's doing well. Hopefully you can keep us posted on how things go moving forward.

Well, after fighting through 2 heart attacks in the last year and another one today, my dad finally found a battle he couldn't win, but he went down swinging.

He lived to be 76 after a full life.

RIP

His lesson to the world: don't let bad luck get you down

Epic bad luck: The man got polio a year before the vaccine was released

What he did with it: Came to the US from Berlin and finished college at the top if his class and went on to work for NASA and later a company where he designed a lot of the parts that went into the STS1 ...the first orbiting space shuttle.

I can't believe I won't be able to have and more conversations with him or get advice and I'll miss him. We had our differences, but were able to work through them and make peace.

Speaking of polio, my father and his three brothers and sisters were March of Dimes poster children in 1951 as they all caught polio during a summer at the shore and were cured. They appeared in the NY Times telling their story.
