View Full Version : Football Eliminating the Kneeldown

We all know that the quarterback kneeldown to end a game is one of the most boring plays in the world. It's designed so that nothing can happen. Personally, I thank Romeo Crennel for completely eliminating it from our playbook, but I'm getting tired of seeing our opponents constantly calling this play.

So I have an idea to eliminate it. How's this?

In the last two minutes of the game, the clock doesn't move on any play that doesn't gain yardage while the offensive team has the lead.

Tie game? No effect. Trailing team has the ball? No effect. But a team that's leading has to be making positive progress. Otherwise, the clock is reset to its previous time after the play.

Many teams call this the Victory formation. Again an unknown in these parts.

"Yes, but I have a much better suggestion that I'll present."

Slow your roll from removing tradition. It's called victory NFL style. If you are on the victorious side, it is a glorious sight to behold. If not, STFU

I wouldn't mind seeing it gone. As it stands, I dont think there is a good alternative, and I dont think messing with the clock rules is the right answer.

We wont see it going anywhere.

But we'll be seen in a negative light if we run up the score.......wait a sec...

The Omaha! Omaha! Omaha! option is so popular that I may start incorporating into all of my polls.

I'd rather see the spike ball start getting ruled intentional grounding as it should be. I'm fine with the kneeldown and current clock management rules except for the spike to stop the clock.

I thought about clicking it, but then decided that I have seen and heard enough omaha omaha shit in my life.

Omaha and Elway, two poll choices that will never get my vote~

ok, here's my take on this play. What's the difference between a foot-first sliding QB and one that kneels down? It's the same frickin' play!

Meh. Games are too long already, especially when I'm wanting to watch the second game of a double header.

Kneeldown plays are for pussies. The ball is live. Defenders should just start taking out unsuspecting linemen's knees. - Greg Schiano

No. Part of winning is clock management. The kneeldown or the victory formation are extensions of that.

the only reason to stop the kneeldown is when the opposing team prostrates themselves on the field before the ball is snapped.

How about we just modify the "Victory Formation" somewhat?

When the play is called, the opposing head coach must take the field and have his ass kicked by the punter until, at the top of his voice, screams the word, "Nellie!"

I agree.

In no other sport does the "kneel down" exist.

Not baseball, basketball, soccer, boxing, Jai Lai, baccarat, poker, roulette, MMA, rugby, cricket, badmitten, drinking, sport fishing or sport fucking.

The NFL needs a rule change.

The winning team shouldn't have to risk a fumble and/or losing yardage and the clock stopping. If you're behind with 2 minutes or less and no timeouts on defense...ya lost. Unless you're playing against Philip Rivers...

all right, fuck the kneeldown.

Victory formation?? That's weird. What does victory mean anyway?

Thats the opposite of what the Chiefs do.

I know, it's hard to fathom.

I must admit that I'm somewhat staggered by the popular support for the kneeldown. I may have to start watching them more closely to see what I'm missing.

Other sports suck. That's why I watch football. The only exception being hockey, which ends in a meaningless fight in this situation. I would not be opposed to ending an NFL football game in a giant meaningless fight instead of a victory formation.

Likewise. I don't care for it at all even back in the 90's when the Chiefs did it sometimes. Play 60 minutes.

This would actually lead to some exciting idiocy from time to time. I've reconsidered my early knee-jerk opposition. Sign me up.

dumb dumbumdbumdumb

Also why the heck'd they change touchbacks to the 25 yard line in college? This is un-amerkkin. FUCK SAFETY, I don't want to feel old. And it's weird.

The Chiefs should just punt on first down, pin the opposing team inside the 2 yard line and try to win with points off safeties.

IF they are going to eliminate anything they need to eliminate the damn head coach hand shake, and take away the commishes right to suspend head coaches in the event of a post game fight at midfield. So that way the losing coach can say "hey, if you kneel down we are going to have a fight when the clock expires". or "if you rough up my players during a kneel down, we are going to have a fight". Award playoff tie breaker points to coches who defeat the other coach in the post game fights. This practice needs to be encouraged.

This is why the kneel down became a play. I was at this game. I'm a NYG fan. All Pisarcik needed to do was kneel down and we win. But no.

The winning team should be able to execute the simplest of plays if they truly deserve victory. The reason the Giants lost that day is because they weren't as good as the Eagles for 60 minutes. They were only better for 59.

They do run the shot clock down in Basketball when your ahead. Not the same but in the same spirit.
