Wonder what they gave the Blue Jays for him.

Not too often managers change teams within divisions. I guess Dusty Baker did it but I can't think of anyone else.

Source: In John Farrell trade, it appears one player will go in *each* direction. So #RedSox will get a player from #BlueJays too.

Like Ozzie being traded from the White Sox.

Even stranger though because it's a division rival. When was the last time something like this happened in any pro sport? This would be like the Chiefs trading for Norv Turner.

Mike Aviles going to #BlueJays, source confirms. @bradfo was first to report.

I don't get the Red Sox fascination with him. Ever since he left, they have pined for him. He's like the ex-hookup that gets a steady boyfriend. You never make that girl a real girlfriend.

Yeah, makes no sense. Baseball managers have the easiest job in sports. They are a dime a dozen. Set a lineup. Manage a bullpen.

Not that Mike Aviles is a star, but the Red Sox gave up more to get John Farrell than they got for Theo Epstein. They're doing it wrong.

Word is Adam Lind is coming to Boston so it's not as bad.

Adam Lind is horrible.

Adam Lind is horrible.
He also could have been had off waivers at any time in the last year. He'd be a salary dump for the Blue Jays.

Anyway, John Farrell wasn't a particularly good manager for the Jays and I'm really not sure what the Red Sox saw in him enough to give a MLB player in return.

They think Farrell can get their pitching staff in order. Personally I think they should have took a chance on Brad Ausmus. That would be quite a deal if they could get Ausmus as bench coach but I don't think that's likely.

Strange. I thought you guys would find it hilarious that the Jays would trade their manager for Mike Aviles.

I did.

Farrell wanted to go back to Boston. he was in the last year of his deal. Might as well get something.

Remind me again what the Chiefs gave the Jets for Herm?

Actually, I'm glad they did the Ferrell deal anyway, because I get to keep DeMarlo Hale as my 3B coach.

But looking at it from the Royals fans' perspective here, I think Aviles is always funny.

Noticed this a. m. that AZ is also already making moves and being proactive. Sigh, life as a Royals fan never changes.

This......... We'll need to go after Glass just like we have CHunt in a few months! Once again, we have the two worst owners in American professional sports. They are the worst people in the world and offer nothing for the cities where they steal their money!

This. Not for making moves just because, but other organizations realize that standing pat is rarely a winning strategy. 1985 was so long ago. Not as long ago as 1970' but................

Another poor move by our FO. JFC.

Farrell has ties to Rick Peterson who's got a great rep as a pitching coach and is in Baltimore's FO. He's been mentioned as potentially being Farrell's pitching coach. He really needs to hit a home run when hiring his bench and hitting coaches IMO. Magaden is headed for the rangers and I don't think Tim Bogar wowed anyone as last years bench coach. Hale would be awesome in that role but I bet he has a decent shot at taking Farrell's spot in Toronto. Ausmus would be a great get but I bet he waits another year for a hot managers job. I wonder if they have an eye on Varitek as bench coach?

I don't think you'll find enough people to make a solid movement to be honest.
