QB MATT CASSEL

Q: Where did this go wrong?

CASSEL: ďI think itís a team thing. I think we all wish we could look back and would have said that we wish we had a better season up to this point. But collectively, we havenít put it all together. I was part of the problem and so were a lot of us. Weíve got to do a better job of playing, coaching and thatís where we are right now.Ē

Q: There were a lot of guys that werenít playing well, but youíre singled out. Do you feel thatís fair? Unfair?

CASSEL: ďAm I going to say that Iím happy about this situation? Absolutely not. Iím frustrated, but at the same time, Iím a team captain on this team. I care about this team, and again, as we move forward, Iím a big boy. Iím not going to hang my head. Iím going to do what Iíve always done and work hard, tremendously hard. Iíve said this from day one, weíve got a great room. My role has changed at this point. Iíll support Brady Quinnhttp://www.kcchiefs.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.kcchiefs.com/team/roster/brady-quinn/2d82435a-73a7-46ea-9a71-ec52f373a53c/) and get him ready to play. Thatís my role as a teammate and as a captain of this team.Ē

Q: Did you try to make a case to Romeo?

CASSEL: ďItís the fruit of the situation at this point because heís made his decision, and again, I can complain, but at the same time it is what it is. Iíll move forward and this team is going to move forward, but again, Iím going to do everything I can if my opportunity comes again.Ē

Q: Did Romeo give you any explanation?

CASSEL: ďHe told me exactly what the situation was going to be. As a player, Iím not going to sit here and say that I was happy about it, but at the same time, weíll move forward. In this new role that I have, Iíll support Brady, and Iíll support the team. Iíll work tremendously hard if my opportunity comes up again.Ē

Q: Did you see this coming?

CASSEL: ďI canít tell you that I saw this coming, but at the same time, when youíre 1-5 and your team is struggling and the coach wants to find a way to spark the team, he felt like this was the best way to do it. He made that decision.Ē

Q: Do you expect youíll be the backup the next 10 weeks or longer?

CASSEL: ďThis is the situation. Right now I am the backup. Thatís my role on this team. Iíll embrace that role, and Iíll work hard and if my opportunity comes up to play, Iíll be ready to go.Ē

Q: Whatís it like to be at practice running with the twos?

CASSEL: ďObviously, it changes the dynamics for sure. Iíve been in this role now for four or five years, and it will take a little time, little bit of an adjustment period. But, again, it wonít change my work ethic or how I work.Ē

Q: Will you change anything about what you do during the week?

CASSEL: ďObviously, practice will be different, but Iíll continue to work on the little things, the details. Iíll have to get more mental reps and get prepared to play in that capacity.Ē

Q: Youíre just one play away from being back out there. Is that how you have to look at it?

CASSEL: ďAbsolutely. Youíre not going to take the fight out of me, so Iím going to continue to fight, compete in whatever capacity that is. Again, if that opportunity comes up again, Iíll be ready.Ē

Q: How do you feel? Back to 100 percent?

CASSEL: ďI feel fine.Ē

Q: Is that the first concussion youíve had?

CASSEL: ďI had one in high school, but other than that, nothing major in the pros.Ē

RB JAMAAL CHARLES

Q: Your thoughts on the change at quarterback?

CHARLES: ďThatís not my decision to talk about the quarterbacks. Romeo, he made a decision and Iím just going out there and playing football.Ē

Q: Does that shake up the offense at all?

CHARLES: ďNo, we wonít worry about that because we were moving the ball with rhythm. He has experience already playing in the NFL as a quarterback already so weíre not going to lose any rhythm.Ē

Q: Is it different in the huddle with Brady rather than Matt?

CHARLES: ďOh no, itís the same. We just go out there to make plays at the end of the day.Ē

Q: Have you had a chance to talk to Brady yet?

CHARLES: ďI talked to him and heís really excited that heís got the opportunity to play, like any other player heís got the chance.Ē

Q: Did the bye come at a good time for you?

CHARLES: ďYeah, I feel like everything happens for a reason. I had a long break and I chilled at home, I didnít go anywhere, I just stayed up here and I feel ready to go.Ē

QB BRADY QUINN

Q: When did you find out?

QUINN: ďThis morning. I was informed about it by the head coach.Ē

Q: What was your reaction?

QUINN: ďIím excited about the opportunity. I think, especially after coming off last week, we have a lot to do. Iím excited about the opportunity of getting to play. Oakland is a great team. There is a lot of work ahead of us.Ē

Q: What do you take away from the Tampa game?

QUINN: ďI think the one thing is, again, we just have to find a way to not have any turnovers. I think thatís been killing us, especially where itís been happening. A lot of times itís happening in the red zone and weíre not coming away with any points, so thatís a big key for us. The thing is for us to just continue a sustained drive, whether itís making a play here or there. Having a bye week, sitting back watching these games this weekend I noticed guys are making plays. Itís not exactly how they draw it up, and guys are making plays. We have to put in our selfless players to be able to make the most of opportunities when weíre given them.Ē

Q: Did you have a feeling after the game that maybe this would be your shot?

QUINN: ďNo.Ē

Q: Romeo Crennel said he didnít want you looking over your shoulder. Did he express that to you? And if so, how do you feel about having a seemingly long look at this?

QUINN: ďHe explained that to me, and really when it comes down to it, Iím not worried about anything else except just getting better each week and focusing on Oakland and the game plan. Again, theyíre an extremely talented defense. I know Coach (Dennis) Allen. Heís a great coach. Heís an aggressive coach, so we have a lot to prepare for. Thatís really my only focus right now.Ē

Q: What do you build on from the Tampa game?

QUINN: ďI think I did some good things out there. There was some efficiency with passing the football, but still, there are some things that weíre still trying to work out. I think anytime youíre coming into a situation where youíre playing with a bunch of guys that you didnít necessarily play with in OTAs, so youíre still trying to get into a rhythm with some of those wide receivers, etc. I think besides that, really, again, going back to the turnovers. You just have to eliminate the turnovers and do a better job in the red zone, coming away with some sort of points.Ē

Q: Last game the ball didnít go down the field much. Was that the calls or defense? Is that something you want to stress a little bit more?

QUINN: ďWe tried a couple times early in the game and then really we had a few plays called there in the end, but the problem is their defense didnít allow that to happen. We had a couple plays early, there was one to Jon (Baldwin) and a couple more. We tried to have a couple shots down the field, but their defense did a good job trying to take it away. At the end, we were in a position where we had to go down the field, but they took that away from us.Ē

Q: What is your strength in this offense?

QUINN: ďI donít know. I really couldnít say right now. I havenít been playing enough to really give you an idea.Ē

Q: Is there a sense of a fresh start after the bye week?

QUINN: ďI donít know. I hope so. You hope guys would be focused and ready to go. First half of football really wasnít quite it. Right now, weíre in a 10-game season. We need to focus on one day at a time, one game at a time. This is a big one for us.Ē

Q: Are you ready to deal with the pressure?

QUINN: ďThere is always pressure. Pressure is what you make of it. As a quarterback in this league, you get used to it. We do a good job with our coaching staff and really with the players in here of rallying around each other and focusing on whatís on the field and not necessarily whatís around it.Ē

Q: Did you ever have any doubt that you might actually get an opportunity to be a starter for a reasonable length of time?

QUINN: ďIím not the type of guy to file hypotheticals, so I donít let my mind wander to those thoughts. I just try to do the job thatís called upon.Ē

"It's a team thing"?

That's the first thing that comes out of his mouth?

No Matt, it's a you thing. The QB is supposed to elevate those around him, not turn them into pieces of fucking trash like you are.

You have nothing to complain about. Cash your last 8 weeks of checks, and GTFO you mistake.

Pretty sure you won't be a captain of the team any more, Casshole.

Further proof that this MF thought he was bulletproof. The amount of turnovers, bad plays and 1-5 record didn't tip you off Matt?

Seriously, what the fuck does this guy even think about? Take responsibility. Put it all on your shoulders, Mr. Fucking Captain.

Cassel tries to deflect blame to his teammates and absorbs the prasie, where it does come around.

I hope he goes to a division rival.

No way.

Listen to the tone of his comments...this guy is gonna be told to take a pay cut to less than 2 million (maybe league minimum) or hit the road and he is gonna cry like a bitch...thats if Pioli is kept around.

Ig I was GM, Id cut him RIGHT NOW and sign a guy like David Gerrard.

No, strike that.

If I was GM I would have NEVER traded for the pussy in the first place and even if I did, I would have cut my losses prior to this year and signed Orton and moved up to draft Tannehill.

Cassel would have lost our in an open competition for the starters spot and would have been traded or outright released.

Ride off into the sunset? Only if he's the horse and its with Pioli on his back. I'd love to see Cassel come back to Arrowhead in a different uniform. Then watch Hali match DT's single game sack record. Or maybe like Young in '94 after Montana put out the hit on him.

all of his bonuses have been paid and he is only due base salaries.

Maybe the bonus he got in 2011 was spread out cap wise...?

Just more Pioli fail, right there.

Cassel will be due 8 million.
Romeo will be gone

His comments make it OBVIOUS that once Pioli said PUBLICLY that it's Romeos call who plays, that Romeo turned right around, got the bat phone and called Cassel and benched his ass right then and there.

Cassel had no idea this was even a possibility and that's straight up ridiculous considering his play the last two years.

You know why? Because he has been protected from above by Pioli the whole time and the second Pioli said that he isn't responsible for starting lineups, Romeo took it upon himself to take him up on that offer.

This all meshes perfectly with Romeos answers last week (before the media blitz) when asked if he thought about benching Matt and he begrudgedly answered "no"

I would love to see this team get a chance to play against Matt Cassel.

Just once.

I don't and have never wished ill will upon Cassel. The dude is living the fucking dream. He's banked $50 million, married a hot chick and pumped out some kids, all the while starting in the NFL and living at Loch Lloyd. He sucks, but hey, he's not doing anything wrong and he's certainly been a cool guy, especially given all the shit tossed his way publicly.

Pioli, OTOH, should be sentenced to lick Bill Belichick's taint for the next 25 years. I've never disliked a Kansas City sports figure as much as I dislike Pioli.

Just once.

That's sure what it looks like.

And we can thank Mr. pr_capone and the SaveOurChiefs movement.

I, for one, have never been more proud of ChiefsPlanet and more disgusted with Pioligo. He is a stain on the NFL whereas ChiefsPlanet is the pristine, freshly-laundered, and scented panty liner.

No way in hell. If he addresses anything, he will go about it in a way where he is acknowledging the obvious...that there was a change, but he will reframe his words to make it appear as if it were not a mistake on his parts and will probably blame the circumstances and insist that he truly does believe that Matt Cassel is a "good quarterback." Cassel has single handily lost us several games over the years. His last game against the Ravens pretty much summed up his entire career here. Hell, even the ravens were joking about how bad Cassel was. Ray Lewis said that they knew that the Chiefs couldn't pass on them...Ed Reed kept saying how Cassel kept audibleing to run. I think Cassel threw a grand total of 10 or 12 times that entire game! The fact is, he has 14 (or is it 15?) total turnovers on his own. That is more than many times have this year combined! Over half of all our turnovers this year have come from one person...Not that I blame Cassel for all those turnovers. There were a few bobbled passes from Cassel that should have been caught by the receivers (maybe 2 or 3 balls)...but 14 turnovers is no coincidence. It is in fact the result of a bad player who continually makes bad choices that ends up costing his team the game.

One thing Quinn brings is more experience. Unlike Cassel, Quinn started for his College team, he was a high draft pick because he was a good player coming out of College. Cassel has always been a career backup...

I don't suspect that we will in fact be even marginally improved with Quinn though. He is a project QB at this point in his career. He does have better physical attributes than Cassel. He has more zip to his passes, better pocket awareness, etc. In the end, like Cassel, he will help the chiefs in the only area that matters now; the draft. :)

The Cassel experiment should have ended last season....we should have signed Orton as a stop gap until we had enough ammo to possibly trade up for a 1st rd pick next seasons draft like Geno or Wilson.

That's the ideal situation that many of us would rather have.

But the cards didn't fall that way. Pioli purposely (regardless if he says it or not) signed Quinn to force Crennel's hand in naming Cassel the starter...I get that, but don't agree w/ it....but as bad as Cassel has played you HAVE to bench the guy. Leaving him out to rot is going to continue this downward spiral, the same kind of spiral that's making Bowe and Colquitt (probably others) want to leave this organization. To be honest, Quinn has much more God given talent at the QB position, he's a much better passer IMO.

But it gets to a point where the whole team's morale and chemistry hits rock bottom because your alleged "leader" is shitting his pants on a monumental level, driving the god damn short bus to Hell. You can see it in the team's play. You saw it last season when the team had more "bounce" in their step whenever Orton took over.

It's not like any other QB that has come in has put points on the board.

Oh shit, we put a real QB out there? When did we do that? All I have seen is Croyle, Palko, Cassel, Orton, and Quinn. Must have missed it. Hell Orton is only blah and he at least showed something. Matt looks alright compared to most of these other QBs, and that was the point Pioli was going for.

With Josh McDaniels back in New England think the Chiefs can trade him back for anything?

Pioli is the one responsible for bringing those players here. If they are comparable to Check Down and he is the best that we have...Pioli needs to do a better job.

I've always loved the whole "he's a nice guy" persona that people seem to believe in. He's not. He's an arrogant, selfish, prick. And a horrible leader.

How do you even see that? You have terrible character assessment capabilities due. You can apply those traits to Phillip Rivers or loud mouth Cam Newton but I don't see those qualities in Cassel. He's just a poor QB.

Had a concussion before? "Not since high school...". He didn't play in college! I still don't see how we have a quarterback that never started a division I college game? How does that happen?

What an unaccountable douche bag. Even when he gets benched in favor of a crappy back up he calls it a "team thing". He has no shame.

I had posted that "team thing" on my bench matt cassel facebook page and I got ripped for it. I posted what I thought he should have said and it sounds more professional from a so called leader. He is a complete douche

Ideally, yes, Mr. whoman69. But I think this is the best that Pioligo can do. Surely he isn't saving anything back. We've seen the apex of his abilities, I fear.

Belicheck might give us a BOGO coupon to the sizzler, so he can have Cassel pick up all the dog shit in his back yard for the rest of the season.

That's what happens when you try to convince yourself that the biggest deal you made since you got here was the right one, Scott Pioli.

I congratulate Matt Cassel. He's lived the reality tv style American dream. No real talent but he found the right person to fall in love with him and give him millions and the spotlight. Like most reality stars the reality has always been that Matt was all show but he had that guy in his corner long enough to let him live out his dream. He's rich and after all this time he's come to believe he earned it. Kim Kardashion should be jealous.
