Lucky and politically sharp. She hand picked this guy from a pretty even republican field and did what she could to ensure he was the opponent.

During the primary, she ran ads describing him as "too conservative" to try and sway primary voters to pick him. It was pretty obvious that Brunner was the best candidate and she didn't want to face him.

Yeah, living here and seeing this play out, she tried, and executed the only play that would leave her victorious. She's savvy as fuck.

Three-way primary also had an effect. Same fucking mechanism that got the "Republican" who backed McCaskill against Talent in 06 and is a recipient of Dem money by taking the split vote from Joplin (Nodler), the entire district (Goodman) and the random fuck to send an auctioneer from Springfield to DC.

One instance where I hate the SWMO.
