I thought Marvin Harrison was better just because his routes were awesome and he seemed to work harder.

BossChief

Marvin Harrison was in the ELITE class of receivers.

Reggie Wayne was always in the next tier.

That one year four years when Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning were both in their primes were amazing though.

Brock

Wayne will probably end up with the better overall career.

Wayne is the Emmitt Smiff of receivers.

BossChief

He's on pace for his best season ever, which is pretty unusual at 34.

BossChief

Harrison made the all pro team every year from 1999-2006

Wayne made 2nd team all pro twice and first team once.

Damn.

Jerry Rice 1995 - 115.5 Yards / Game
Marvin Harrison 2002 - 107.6 Yards / Game
Marvin Harrison 1999 - 103.9 YPG

Only two I've been able to find w/ more YPG in a season than Wayne has right now...of course I only checked some of the bigger names.

I think it is funny the media portrayed Harrison as such a good guy and a great teamate just because he never talked. Turned out to be a scum bag POS

Harrison made the all pro team every year from 1999-2006

Wayne made 2nd team all pro twice and first team once.

Pro Bowl is not the same as All-Pro.

Harrison was a 3 time first team all pro. Still that's fantastic.

BossChief
11-08-2012, 11:07 PM
Reggie Wayne has never had back to back years with double digit TDs.

Marvin Harrison had double digit TDs every year from 1999 to 2006.

Its not even worth debate. Harrison was a far better player.

That takes nothing away from Wayne...Harrison was just that good.

Buck
11-08-2012, 11:08 PM
Ok here we go....Reggie Wayne is on pace to have the 9th best receiving season ever. Behind these guys....

Hennigan did that in only 14 games, so he has the record of 124.7 YPG.

Hard to say.

I'm a firm believer that QBs make WRs so while these guys have had stellar careers, they've both done it with #1 overall one in a generation QBs.

My gut says Harrison. But the fact that Wayne is looking this good with Luck (still a rookie QB) is pretty darn impressive.

I didn't know all the details about that. Crazy. So I'm guessing the Dixon guy saw who shot him while he was in his car? The shooting that killed him I mean. Because he said "the guy was paid by Harrison to kill him" which I took to mean that he knows it wasn't Harrison himself that shot him that day.

I should also say, that even if Harrison was guilty of killing the guy...he was only a piece of shit drug dealer gangster asshole. So who cares.

Harrison and Wayne would be remembered along the lines of Ernest Givens and Haywood Jeffires if they didn't have Manning throwing to them. Fine players to be sure, but fading with time.

i just drove through the philly ghetto the other week and its amazing that this dude has had storefronts there. he must be treated like a king because that area of philly is no place for people unless they have a huge influence in the culture.

its not like hes hanging out in a nice place of philly say where Eagles players live and stuff. The dude is in the fucking pits. Where an entire economy is benefited from selling drugs.

Marvin Harrison hands down. Even if Wayne plays next year and then retires, giving the two identical numbers of years played, Wayne is ~2,000 yards and 50ish touchdowns away from Harrison's numbers. Aaaaaaaand, Harrison didn't get to spend his entire career up until now with Peyton Manning, Wayne did, until this year. So the argument about who they were catching balls from is essentially moot, or actually favors Harrison in the "had to work harder for the numbers" category.

I think Wayne was probably more physically gifted in how he could get up and get the ball, but Harrison just ran laser sharp routes and had GREAT hands, to make up for his lack of showmanship in playmaking ability.

Even more impressive is the Colts organization for finding these guys. Even their backups make all the catches, Last night was good example.

Thats how I see it, too.

If Im trying to pick the greatest receiver of all time NOT named Jerry Rice, Marvin is probably towards the top of that list if not at the top of it.

He ran ELITE routes, had ELITE hands and was damn near uncoverable during his prime.

Harrison is probably a top 5 receiver of all time and Reggie isn't anywhere close.
