AZChief has written a fantastic article about Joe Delaney. It is on the front page right now.
Actually, he wrote it about a month ago... but with all the difficulties and my stupidity, it hasn't gone up until just now.

AZChief,
Great, Great article. I was 15 when Joe Delaney passed. I remember that off-season being so filled with hope. The strike was over, Mackovic had been hired with the promise of a wide-open offense, and the defense was solid. The future looked bright. I am truly ashamed of the Chiefs for not bestowing the highest honor upon their most honorable.

Great article and insight. The first game I ever went was his rookie season . . . I was 10 and I was so happy that the Chiefs finally had a superstar in the making. I remeber crying the day I heard about his death on Channel 9. I have been saving $, paying off the credit card so I can get a Delaney jersey. And I thought I was the only one with that idea . . . glad to see I'm not.

I might be mistaken, but don't the Chiefs have yet to add DT to the ring of fame?
If they haven't done it yet,, I'm appalled!!

I'm speechless. That was a truely outstanding tribute to one of the greatest Chiefs to ever wear the Red and Gold. He will undoubtedly get his due one day, especially with people, like yourself, reminding others what a remarkable athlete and human being Joe Delaney really was. Thanks for taking the time to write such an outstanding piece.

I wasn't old enough to remember Joe but I had heard of him by reading up on Chiefs history. It is in fact VERY interesting that in losing his life selflessly for others, he is still reletively unknown. I had never thought about that. Maybe it is our responsibility as fans to press the issue. I would certainly be willing to put fourth some effort. Any one know where to begin?

Clint - The waiting period is more than one year for the ring of fame.
Great job AZChief! I may not have been old enough to understand all the nuances of football, but I was old enough to know that a great man was lost that day in 1983.

AZ...Thank you for such a great article about Delaney. You have put into words in such a great way what some of us have been screaming about for a couple of years now...I hope Adam and Tom read this.I also hope Lamar reads this....Carl told me in his response to my letter about Delaney that Lamar Is the ONLY one who could put Delaney in the ring of fame and retire his jersey...to date none of us has ever gotten a response from Lamar.Adam and I both got a immediate response from Carl....it is Lamar and Lamar only that can change the fact that Delaney is the Chiefs forgotten hero.
Thanks AZ.

AZChief, thank you for your article. I was 11 years old when the tragedy occured, and I can still remember crying myself to sleep. He made me proud to be a Chiefs fan. I would like to know if there has ever been a fan petition on the issue of his induction to the ring of fame?
I would love to stand outside Arrowhead and collect signatures for this cause.

Chiefs fanatic...there has never been a petition however numerous fans have mailed letters to Lamar about this issue...we know Lamar received several and that he was surprised by the amount of mail he received on the issue...he has never responded.

AZChief,
Great article, the only thing that could make it better is to have it distributed to more people/newspapers.
The 37 Forever Foundation appeciates your article. Speaking as one of the Co-Founders I can say without reservation, Great Job.
We need more people that remember Joe involved.
Thanks again

Thanks Tom, I'm glad you liked the article. As you know, I'm still willing to do anything I can to help you and "the cause" out. Feel free to use this article and submit it to anyone you feel it could persuade. I tried to find your email address but I couldn't find it. I was intending on sending you an advance copy and seeing if you had any additional facts on JD's life.

Nice job, AZ. Very upbeat article then the shocking letdown at the end. I didn't know all the details of the Delaney legacy and I'm happy you've put them in print. Hopefully a little exposure will be good for this cause. It's really a shame fans have to resort to pressure prior to true consideration of Delaney official recognition.

AZ Chief:
Many thanks and much appreciation for a SUPERB article. The other Chiefs BB allowed me to revisit my childhood hero, Joe Delaney, 18 months ago and the initial response was incredible. I only hope your efforts will be similarly rewarded and you have my total commitment to help #37 get his just due.
The other major players in the "37 Forever Foundation", Tom Cash & Tracy Weinhold (and Dave Walch, if he's on this BB) can back me up when I say this. What I have learned in my pursits surrounding getting Joe Delaney this recognition is that Lamar Hunt only listens to Lamar Hunt. I base this on not just my experiences but also on those persons I happen to be close to within the Chiefs organization. Why he never has done the right thing is the biggest mystery of all and I have come to the conclusion that the newest owner of the Chiefs (down the road) will be when Delaney will be honored, if ever. That's an outrage, considering it was Hunt who knew him.
I'll gladly send my e-mail over to you, AZChief, so that anything you need about starting something up again. There's nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Once again, congratulations on a very informative article. It serves as my bookmark to enter this site.

Outstanding article!!! I remember being very excited about the upcoming football season, and then hearing about Mr. Delaney's tragic death. Like many others who have already posted I would love to be part of any petition or crusade to get #37 his rightful spot in Arrowheads Ring of Fame.

Great article, AZchief. His loss was extremely sad. Perhaps the others in the ROH could get behind the movement, too. I've never lived near KC, but always have had the impression that Lamar is a good person. The stubbornness on this issue is disappointing.
