it isn't actually very big, 7 in tall by 4 in wide and 5 in long

Yep.It's all ball bearings nowadays. Also gonna' need some gauze and about 10 quarts of antifreeze, preferably Prestone. ... No, make that Quaker State.

Agreed. The base looks to be square tubing and the linkage could be flat bar with holes drilled and corners rounded. The two main bodies could be formed flat plate with an inner sleeve welded together.
If there's already a tool like that, then why would you need to machine one? Just buy the tool.
This doesn't make any sense....
