99% chance Pioli gets fired

I'd give Geno's odds better than 50% that he's drafted at 1 overall. To us.

That's better than any other player in the draft right now, IMO. I'll take those odds and say yes.

Don't agree at all.

QBs tend to go #1 overall, and Smith has distinguished himself as the #1 QB prospect in the draft, a player worthy of the selection and slot. History and logical analysis of Smith's body of work tell us all of this.

Pioli's record and knack of alienating the fan base demand his removal, and I'd say this is all but done at this time.

We have numbers to evaluate Smith. The posters who like him most have even seen him play.

Statistical evidence in the last 12 years strongly suggests that a talented QB goes #1 overall.

All comes down to who is hired. You could hire someone who doesn't think Geno fits the style of offense they want to run here (IE they want a pure under-the-center passer who can run a west coast scheme and might think some other QB in the 2nd or 3rd round fits better, or might try to trade down and get one).

Or, they could hire someone who has ties to the Redskins or Niners who tries to trade for Cousins/Smith. You never know. If the Chiefs had not hired Pioli, we may be talking about who replaces Mark Sanchez this offseason.

I do believe Pioli gets hired. As for Geno, let's see where his stock is at after the bowl game and the pre-draft workouts...

Uh oh...

“Clark feels indebted to Scott Pioli. What they found when they were taking over the day-to-day [operations of the Chiefs] was not very pretty. There were some very ragged business practices…bordering on illegal.”
Kevin Harlan, 810 AM

“I don’t know enough of the specifics to comment. It probably isn’t my place. The people who cover this team know, and certainly people in the [Chiefs] organization. I just know when they brought in Pioli it was a charge given to clean things up. I think you can deduce from that what you want to.”
Kevin Harlan, 810 AM

“My impression is that inside [the Chiefs organization], the business side is far more efficient. They have streamlined it. So from that standpoint, they feel like they have made tremendous strides.”
Kevin Harlan, when asked why Clark Hunt would even consider retaining Scott Pioli, 810 AM

Don't care. Bunch of BS.

You have to understand the context of the conversation.

Kevin Harlan NEVER says anything about anybody. He's the CBS/NFL version of Mitch Holthus.

I hear him every week and I've heard him talk specifically about Pioli many many times over the past few weeks.

Today was very different. Greg Hall cherry picked quotes - seems to me Hall is trying to stir the shit instead of inform people - that make it seem Harlan thinks Pioli is staying. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Count Zarth
12-18-2012, 11:28 AM

If Pioli is retained he will draft QB. But given his personnel move history, talent evaluation skills and that no competent coach wants to work here, that QB is f*****. This is why Clark is in a difficult situation. He might be forced to make a change even though he preaches stability.

If Pioli remains(I don't see how but then ego has often trumped common sense over the ages of time and that means Clark is admitting he f'd up hiring Pioli) and we have the 1st pick, you can bet Pioli will have every needy QB team aside from us offering a 'plethora' of picks to get Geno assuming they have enough. And this will be extremely tempting for Pioli as we all know. But IF Pioli is retained it will only be because Pioli has been told by Clark, draft Geno or you are gone.

After witnessing the recent rookie QB success in the NFL especially Cam's and RG's rookie year how can Geno NOT be the No.1 pick ? He even has a stronger and more accurate arm than both of these guys and the athletic skills to boot. Maybe not quite as athletic but way far enough to be a successful scrambler if need be. The key will be to bring in someone who really knows how to develop a QB. Geno could be the next Big Ben with more athleticism and Bruce Arians whether OC or HC would know how to develop him just like he did with big Ben.

Why so specific on Smith? Pioli is gone for sure. I don't know if we'll draft Smith though.

Because he's a fucking rock star.

Have you watched this fucking guy play football?

The only way he doesn't go #1 is that the NFL powers that be/brain trusts pull an epic level stupid and repeat the Aaron Rogers bullshit all over again.

If the Chiefs pass on Geno Smith, I'm fucking done.

only way Geno Smith isn't drafted by us is if we sign/trade for a big name guy prior to the draft.

even then we might do both, sign a guy and draft smith.

we'll sign the OT, and somehow end up with Flynn or A. Smith

....because we're retarded.

Alex Smith would be a godsend after four years of Cassel.

That being said...

FUCK NO!

If Pioli is back, the problem is the OWNER.

So I don't know why you'd bother waiting for Pioli to leave. Might as well find a new team because Clark isn't going anywhere.

Point taken, Hunt has to get it right at some point just from blind luck, right?

I expect the worst case scenario since that is all that Clark has produced since taking over.

By the time the draft rolls around, Smith will be the unquestioned #1 and Tyler Wilson will be the second pick.

Both guys should fly up boards after senior bowl week and interviews/workouts.

Smith is already at the top of a lot of draft boards.

Scott Wright has him #1. Dan Shonka/Ourlads has him #1. GBN has him #1. Matt Miller has him #1.

I think after he knocks the interviews out of the park, he will be the consensus.

A few years from now it's gonna be fun to read through some of the threads on this qb class and how all the dumbass draftniks think it's a weak qb class when a handful of us have called it a very strong class for months.
