I stole this from another board.

Its amazing when you actually look at the stats.....

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/blog/bal-demographics-of-2012-baltimore-homicides-20121231,0,4137229.story

Each year, the Baltimore Police homicide section compiles statistics on city killings. Here's how some of the data break down:

Murders: 217
Clearance rate (cases closed by arrest or administratively): 47.4 percent
Victims injured in prior years who died this year: 7
Cases from prior years closed this year (which counts toward this year's clearance rate, per FBI guidelines): 28

Cause:
Arson: 1
Blunt force: 7 (3.6%)
Handgun: 181 (83.4%)
Knife/sharp object: 20 (9.2%)
Shotgun/rifle: 2
Strangle/suffocation: 2
Vehicle: 1
Other: 3

Gender:
Male: 196 (90.3%)
Female: 21 (9.7%)

Race:
Asian: 1
Black: 204 (94.4%)
Hispanic: 1
White: 10 (4.6%)

Age groups:
Juvenile: 11 (5%)
Adult: 206 (95%)

35 and over: 72 (33.2%)
25-34: 68 (31.3%)
24 and under: 77 (35.5%)

Motives:
Argument: 14
Arson: 1
Child abuse: 6
Dispute over money: 2
Domestic: 3
Drugs: 3
Neighborhood (dispute?): 1
Retaliation: 3
Robbery: 10
Other: 10
Unknown: 163

Central: 15
Southeastern: 11
Eastern: 36
Northeastern: 27
Northern: 24
Northwestern: 28
Western: 30
Southwestern: 32
Southern: 14

(Known) suspects with criminal records: 79.1 percent
Suspects with drug arrests: 61.6 percent
Suspects on parole and probation at time of killing: 23.3 percent
Suspects arrested for prior gun crimes: 45.3 percent

Victims with criminal records: 82.3 percent
Victims with drug arrests: 68.4 percent
Victims on parole and probation at time of death: 24.2 percent
Victims arrested for prior gun crimes: 37.7 percent

So clearly we have an assault weapon problem. I suspect every other major city statistics are similar, and the country's as well.

Did they say how many of the murderers were cat owners? Maybe it's contagious?

They did, but without the numbers of the victims that owned cats, I thought that it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

Rifles in general are not a statistically substantial weapon of choice nationwide. That's just one of the reasons that an "assault weapons" ban is such a stupid idea.

Other is the 4th biggest killer on that list. BAN OTHER!

I'll bet a lot of those people were drunk. We could ban booze and see if that works.

I read on another thread talking about the DF Bill and there was a blurb about the reasoning for the bill and it mentioned there have been 350 deaths by so called "Assault Weapons" since the ban expired. Which has been what 8 years? So thats roughly 44 a year.

Such an evil Weapon!

I'll bet a lot of those people were drunk. We could ban booze and see if that works.

If liberal politicians were serious about protecting the populace this would make more sense than an "Assault Weapon" ban. Not that I am advocating an alcohol ban. Just pointing out the ulterior motive of the liberal elite.

Try bombing a few villages with Predator drones first. Then you'll be a shoe-in!

The safest city in America (Chicago, Ill) claims the life of a 15 year old girl that performed at Obama's inaguration. Thank goodness for that strict gun control.

http://www.startribune.com/nation/188999511.html?refer=y&refer=y

CHICAGO - A 15-year-old majorette who performed at some of President Barack Obama's recent inauguration festivities has been shot to death in Chicago.

Police say Hadiya Pendleton was shot in the back Tuesday in a South Side park and died at a city hospital.

Authorities say Hadiya was one of about 12 teenagers sheltering from heavy rain under a canopy when a man jumped a fence, ran toward the group and opened fire. The man fled the scene in a vehicle. No arrests have been made.

Police do not believe Hadiya was the intended target of the shooting. A teenage boy was shot in the leg. Police did not release his name.

Hadiya belonged to the King College Prep High School band, which performed at several inaugural events in Washington, D.C.

Nobody worth noting will bring up that guns are illegal in Chicago.

“We are awash in guns,” Durbin said, noting that six times as many guns as confiscated in Chicago as in New York each year. We have guns everywhere and some believe the solution to this is more guns. I disagree.”

Yeah, those strict gun laws in Chicago did so much good, heh?

A girl who performed at Obama's inauguration was killed by a stray bullet from an illegal handgun in Chicago. But nobody will talk about this, b/c if you ban guns the bad guys are supposed to not have them.

Chicago is awash is dirtbag criminals and liberal cunt politicians who refuse to do anything about them.

But it's hard to successfully promote a fear agenda without heavily-armed criminals. I wonder if Rahmbo pays double-bonus bounties for every honor student they grease?

Yep, that is funny, however, I am confused. Are you implying nothing should be illegal because enforcement doesn't work?

No I think he's implying that both the science and the history have shown the prohibition is entirely ineffective because it never actually addresses the social problem.

Guns aren't the problem because ironically it's drug prohibition and the ensuing crime that is the root cause of most of those criminal oriented deaths.

In the case of drugs the root problem isn't drugs. It's addiction, 'banning' drugs doesn't address addiction it just raises their costs, both monetary and societal. How much less crime, violence and general drug induced misery would there be if we spent the trillions of dollars we have spent trying to prevent drugs from entering this country and instead spent those trillions of dollars treating addiction?

Probably the most harmful thing in our society isn't drugs or guns. It's prohibition, it has caused more death, more harm and more misery than drugs or guns combined. But people like telling people what to think, believe, and do because it makes them feel powerful.

No one cares about actually solving problems, they just like settling scores.

Not at all. I have no problem with things being illegal. I just don't think there should be any further restrictions on firearms. Especially the so called "assault weapons".

CrazyPhuD said it much better than I did.

People who think banning assault weapons will make them safer are living in a dream world. Check the facts, educate yourself. It's a useless exercise.

I was in Chicago for almost 36 hours this week and I wasn't shot at ONCE!!! It's a miracle... but God made up for it, by making me almost die in a plane crash...

Hopefully when I'm in New Orleans, no "Final Destination" curse follows me. heh.

I had a dream that a huge fracking earthquake took place this weekend in New Orleans... so that sucks.

The problem is you weren't wearing black face. I bet if you walked around Chicago wearing black face you'd get shot at!

Actually that's untrue. The DOD due to logistical reasons have stopped serving hot breakfast at certain bases due to the upcoming drawdown. MRE's are still served(and I believe also they have a selection of cold breakfast items like cereal etc).

This guy I know bought an AR style rifle today that was delivered with several high capacity magazines and a couple of hundred rounds. It has sat about 3' from this guy all afternoon and you may be shocked to learn, it hasn't harmed anyone yet.
