Guess the GM wasn't kidding on the call with Tampa

Probably the worst QB situation in the entire league. Since KC doesn't want him, pray Buffalo wants Smith enough to give us a small fortune. Hell, even a reasonable return would be awesome.

Agreed. If we are going to fuck up this pick and embrace mediocrity, lets build the team to be slightly better. Maybe lose a playoff game by one less touchdown than we would have.

Top-10 pick from Buffalo for sure, and it wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possibilities for KC to be in this neighborhood, too.

ill agree with this the day Alex Smith throws for 3,800 yards in a season like Fitzy did. Which will be the 4th of the never in the year 2000never so yeah.

Fitzpatrick & #34>Alex Smith

Eh, not really.

Fitzpatrick is multiplying by 0. He's just not a starting QB. Cut Cassel, replace him with Fitzpatrick and you still don't have a starting QB. Sure, you have another draft pick, but at 34 you're not getting a surefire starting QB there either.

If my only choices were Fitzpatrick + 34 or Alex Smith, I'd take Smith. At least in Smith you do have a legitimate NFL starting QB.

SNR

Fitzpatrick + #34 + Geno at 1.1 > Alex Smith

Fitzpatrick is dogcrap. He's barely an upgrade from Cassel. In some ways, I think he's worse.

Alex Smith is exactly like Fitz, you can have Fitz for free or give up the 34 pick for Smith

it's a no brainer really. you will get the same record, production, noodle arm from both. And Fitzy isnt injury prone like broken glass Smith is

Alex Smith has some semblance of accuracy and smart decision-making. He's an ideal game manager with a tiny bit of upside.

Fitzpatrick doesn't even have that. Which is why in many ways, Cassel is a better starting QB than he is.

im glad you are coming to the realization of no Geno and accepting the rationale of your team trotting out Alex Smith, but boy you are going to be in for a surprise this season when you see Alex Smith take sacks and question his decision making then

Were you born in a Walmart? Are you basing your Ryan Fitzpatrick evaluation entirely on his games against the Chiefs or what?

The dude has a handful of big games against terrible defenses in his career. So does Cassel. He's not at ALL an accurate QB. And if Alex Smith takes bad sacks/can't escape pressure, it's not like Fitzpatrick is fucking Fran Tarkenton.

I still hate the Alex Smith deal. I think Alex will prove to be an upgrade from Cassel, but not by a huge degree. The trade is a crap decision if we're not going to acquire a real QBOTF to sit on the bench for a year.

In the meantime, Alex is way better than Fitzpatrick. It's not even close.

Alex Smith was the #1 overall pick of the draft, much like people think Geno should be. It's amazing people keep comparing him talentwise to guys who are 6th and 7th round QBs.

Fitzpatrick was a better than average QB before he fucked up his shoulder.

It reminds me of how Kurt Warner was written off for dead while he started ahead of Eli in NY with a busted up thumb. He came back with the Cardinals and did quite well for himself.

Although, I wonder if Fitzpatrick's shoulder will ever come back to 100%.

If nobody wants to trade up for Geno, then we should draft him. It's as simple as that. We can do something similar to what the Chargers did with Eli. Hold him ransom and see what the Eagles and Bills are willing to give up for him, and then run the price up. The bills really are fucked right now. We could show pity and give them Cassel for a 7th I suppose.
