View Full Version : Chiefs Alex Smith is a frog that won't sing or dance

There's this hilarious post on reddit that was made by a Bengals fan right after their playoff loss to the Houston Texans for the second consecutive year.

"ANDY DALTON THROWS 47 TOUCHDOWNS IN HIS FIRST TWO YEARS, GOOD FOR 3RD ON THE ALL TIME LIST IN THAT NARROW CATEGORY BUT WHEN EVERYONE LOOKS, HE TURNS INTO THAT GODDAMN FROG IN THE HAT THAT WON'T SING OR DANCE!"

For people who don't know what the hell he's talking about:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MsROL4Kf8QY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And here's what happens when the guy tries to show the frog to a talent agent:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/lfrJzkpzCyg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I mean, it's brilliant on a few levels. One is its connection to Andy Dalton as a TCU Horned Frog. The other is the portrayal of the hobo who discovers him, who knows that if he can make the frog sing and dance at any important event in front of any important talent agent, he'll have all the success and money he could dream of. The reality is very few coaches are able to make their Andy Daltons sing and dance like this, and very often it can be the very thing that gets them fired. At the end of this cartoon, the man puts the frog back in the box and buries him deep under ground, haunted by his explosions into song. Another guy digs up the box by accident, discovers the frog talent, and the process begins all over again. Another *****, another Cassel. Another Gailey, another Fitzpatrick.

And dare I say... another Reid another Alex Smith?

Look, you have Bengals fans that are getting sick of Dalton's shit. You have Texans fans getting sick of Schaub's shit. I have no idea if Falcons fans are sick of Ryan's shit, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were.

My point is I think Alex Smith is doomed. Because at his BEST, he's a singing and dancing frog that performs for the talent agents, but when he gets on stage for an audience, he turns into a ribbitting piece of crap. And you already have fans of these teams that HATE their singing and dancing frogs.

We haven't had a singing and dancing frog since Trent Green. We've been hobos for a long fucking time. Cassel sang and danced once, but that was only because we were on acid. If we're lucky enough for Alex to be a singing and dancing frog, we're just going to want him replaced anyway.

Umm... actually I don't really have a point here. But there it is anyway.

I think the bigger problem Andy Dalton has for him is that he plays for the Bengals. I think he is pretty good QB above average but not elite by any measure. I'd rather have Andy Dalton than Alex Smith. I would have been happy if we drafted Andy Dalton in the first place. He would be somebody to root for.

Actually have watched quite a bit of Dalton since the Chiefs have been so wonderful for the last couple of years. He was terrible this year compared to last. Not sure why he took such huge steps back but he didn't really play that well this year. He tried to do too much at times and not enough at others. I expect he will have a much better year this year as that kid is a competitor and will work to get better.

I'm no fan of the trade or the acquisition, but I can't see myself doing another 3-4 years of constant head banging. If the Chiefs lose (again), I'll laugh and move on. So you are calling Andy Reid a lier? Andy Reid wants to pass the ball more than run the ball yet your suggesting that's not what we are going to do? We are still going rely on the run game with Jamaal Charles & the defense is going have to keep teams from scoring 20+ points on us. Sighs. If you arent trailing, most teams dont continue to pass. Not sure if you have noticed, but in the past few years, the eagles are trailing a lot, and having to throw. Sighs. If you arent trailing, most teams dont continue to pass. Not sure if you have noticed, but in the past few years, the eagles are trailing a lot, and having to throw. I do not believe that you will have to worry about that with Alex Smith as your qb. I believe you will be leading quite a bit. I believe your defense is much better than what showed last year.

Dude Andy Reid came out and said his philosphy is to pass and keep passing. Has nothing to do with the lead or if behind he wants to pass the ball and mix in the run. That is what he wants our offense to be about and that is where I think that Alex Smith is going to faulter if he expect Alex to pass that much per game. Alex Smith is ok at less than 25 pass attempts a game but more than that he will be getting in trouble.

Imo if Andy Reid wants success out of Alex Smith then he should do it the same as Harbaugh with the run and play action pass. However that is not the type of offense Andy Reid runs or wants to run here so I'm afraid his expectations & putting extra pass attempts for Alex Smith to make is going add much pressure and increase chance of fail. Defenses are going to key on Alex Smith and pumble him into the dirt.

This is why I don't think Alex Smith is a good fit for Andy Reid offense regardless if it is WC. I don't think Alex Smith can hold up to the pressure of a pass first offense.

people fail to realize the WCO is a short passing offense JC will be getting the ball on short routes simmilar to a long hand off in space,so if your expecting bombs down field, its not what your going to get with Alex, the ball control eat up the clock, grind the other guy into the ground offense, with the occasional shot down field to the 9 route or the TE underneath the coverage is more like it,and a reduction in pics Smith he doesn't like to turn the ball over much at all.

if he lets say a typical stat line for him.

he goes 16-20 for 240 yards, 2 tds, 0 ints

No you don't, peckerwood niner.

That is NOT a typical Alex Smith stat line

He threw for 240 yards or more exactly SIX TIMES for the 49ers in the last 27 games.

That's not even 25 percent.

Meanwhile he's thrown for 200 or less yards for the 49ers 15 times in the last 27 games.

THAT is what Alex Smith is. Typically, he throws for less than 200 yards.

Garbage.

Had it not been for our turnstile defense, Gonzo's BS offensive pass interference that wiped off a TD, and Priest's fumble we would have won that game. Fans don't defect. The ones that do are pretending to be fans. And good riddance.

I have been a fan of this team, this uniform, since their Super Bowl win. I have lived through the hopelessness of the late70s-80s and the hopeful 90s and early 00s. Bottom line is it's the name, the logo and the uniform you stay loyal to. People who fill those uniforms come and go. We can only hope that one of these times, finally the right group of people will fill them and we will see glory again. Any deviation from that degree of loyalty disqualifies one from calling himself a fan.

Alex Smith is not a Mormon. He was born in Seattle, raised in San Diego, and graduated in two years from Utah. I know not all Mormons live in Utah, so living outside of Utah is not my point. He has been reported not to be Mormon before. Only people making assumptions think that.

If he sucks, we can get a new QB, which is what I want. If he's good, I'll watch the rest of the team drag him to the playoffs.

Either way, I get whatever I want, and you get to dictate nothing.

Negged.

Pretty much the way I figure it anyways. If he does well, ie the team is winning, babies will cry and say that the rest of the team is carrying him. Which, is pretty much typical.

If he's doing well, it MEANS that the team is carying him.

lol, if you say so. I like the fact that Alex Smith has no ego when it comes down to checking to a run, or throwing a pass to a guy short and giving him a chance to make a play. That's just me. Shrugs. The big play is nice, but keeping the other offense off the field, is just as nice. Especially when you have as good of pass rushers as you guys do, the more time their offense has to spend trying to hurry up and score, the better off you will be.

Just my line of thinking.

Those things are great... as long as he can flip the switch and try to make tougher throws on 3rd down.

Flipping the ball short to a guy - the checkdown pass - has its place. But on third down? All it really leads to is a team that punts. A lot.

That's fine if you have a truly elite defense. It's unlikely Alex Smith will have such a luxury in his time in KC.

We wont know that until the season starts. No one thought the 49ers defense heading into 2011 was going to be elite either.

I agree, he has to pick up the 3rd downs, agreed completely. He also has to feel free to take some chances, and give guys a chance to make a play.....

Agreed on all of the above.
