What's truly interesting about this will be to see how he does as a NT.

Pioli and his coaches were way too damn stubborn to shift him to NT in our scheme. It would thrill me to no end to watch him kick ass and take names as a NT out there.

At that point we get to add yet another fail to Scott's ever-growing list.

He's not bad. It just sucks we haven't gotten a single fucking playmaker with our 1sts. Berry will be good, but god damn. Rather just trade our fucking firsts for a handful of later round picks. Better chance of throwing a dart at the board and getting a good player in the god damn 4th than drafting these assholes in the 1st.

what chaps my ass is, not that he's gone but the only hole or opening on that 49ers defense is at the NT position. He's not starting over McDonald or Smith at the DEs, and their one NT just signed with Philly and the other is still on the market. So they signed Dorsey to play NT? And sold him on playing NT? Which means he's been open to playing NT in a 34?

And if he even shows a hint of talent at it, that means we wasted four years having the NT on our roster the whole time.

Actually, we just lost our NT, Soapaoga to Free agency so Dorsey will probably compete with Ian Williams and a 2013 draft pick for the 3-4 nose.

Soapoaga was good at holding the point as a NT, but didn't make plays.

I know Dorsey was an end for some reason at KC, but how was his bull rushing ability and how did he hold up against double teams?

mcaj22

they are going to platoon Dorsey with Ian like they did with Soapoaga and RJF because it brings versatility to their 1 gap.

he's not going to be strictly a 2nd string DE on the off chance Smith or McDonald get hurt

he will get snaps at DE, NT and I think they want to try him at a 1 gap penetrator, something the Chiefs never did because the regime was terrible.

We have one of the best Defensive line coaches in the league, Jim Tomsula and sometimes change is good for a player.

SF boards are saying he will likely line up at NT most of the time but shift to DT with Justin Smith in nickel situations. The NT goes out of the game for another DB when they go nickel. Aldon Smith and McDonald are DEs in the nickel. Ian Williams is a backup. They will still draft another DL if the right guy comes up. They have a lot of talent but thin at DL. When Justin went down last season their pass rush went down with him.

Considering Justin plays the 3 in subs, they'll be play Dorsey as a shaded 1 for the majority of his snaps in both base fronts and subs.

Yes. It's true. Denver gets Welker. We get...

If we can trade down a few spots then watch us draft Tavon Austin and then watch the 'donkeys' go ohhhhhhhhhhh sh************ !!! Understand, b4 the Welker signing today all the fan base, media, etc...... out here have been clamoring for the donks to trade up a few spots and get Austin.

I'm mean hell, if we aren't going to draft Geno, his buddy Austin IS the real deal playmaker and is a mini-Percy Harvin in the slot that is actually football tough. I say draft his ass ! BPA !!!:thumb:

That will be true much of the time, however, they move Justin all the way in to the nose on occasion if they feel that is a better matchup. They move the DL sets around a lot. They like versatile players that can do that. They don't just sit in one set and dare you to beat them.

I'd rather have Dorsey than DeVito and I'd much rather have Dorsey at his figure over DeVito at his.

We really screwed the pooch on the DE position thus far.

I'd rather have them BOTH, because they're both about equal players.

Fuck Tyson Jackson. Should have just been cut outright.

If Dorsey rapes in SF and Tyson Jackson continues to be a borderline scrap heap NFL reject, fuck Dorsey for this DE crap.

And yes I realize bitching about DEs in a 3-4 is pretty, but after the QB bullshit, everything is getting scrutinized.

Unless there's something I'm ignorant of that prevents Dorsey or DeVito from flipping to LDE, we let Dorsey walk for Tyson Jackson.

Justin's snaps playing a 1 tech are very limited, despite the fact they do move him around occasionally.

49ers do switch it up in regards to having multiple nickel and dime packages with different fronts/alignments/personnel.

The best 3-4 defense in football has been peeking at my posts, evidently.

49ers plan to play Glenn Dorsey as a Jay Ratliff type nose (http://http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4661/glenn-dorsey)

49ers plan to play Glenn Dorsey at nose
Mar 15 - 2:31 PM

At 6-foot-1 and just over 300 pounds, Dorsey will be an undersized nose tackle in the Jay Ratliff mold. The 49ers will likely give him plenty of penetrating opportunities as opposed to using Dorsey as a two-gap plugger. Dorsey's two-year deal is worth $6 million. He received a $2.285 million signing bonus. Mar 15 - 2:31 PM

i agree that the unknown is how many players balked at the Chiefs offers to them, so KC can only get the guys that want to come here based on their offer + location + FO.

I think they missed on more FA targets than you think, compared to what they hit on.

Guys like Fasano seem awfully like "rush to Plan B" than "Plan A" target FAs. Mike DeVito was also a plan B if the reports that the offer to Glenn Dorsey fell through ___ hours before FA started.

They definitely missed on Phillip Wheeler and Chris Canty, to name some that leaked.

mcaj22
03-18-2013, 01:39 PM
i guess "miss" is a strong word

i should say, their target FA wish list probably looked A LOT different than what they actually hit on. But they are still happy with what they got and that's all that matters, but I bet you the first wave of guys they sent feelers out to was not the ones signed that is for sure. Probably just Sean Smith/Dunta in that regard.

In 8 years we will probably be looking at Poe and Houston as the only 2 things Pioli ever got right.

If Poe keeps developing like he did last year and appears to be coming along this year, he could as imposing as Geno Atkins.

Speaking of Atkins - what an amazing find he's been. He's a 4th rounder that's suddenly on a HOF career track. Apart from JJ Watt, he was the most impressive defender I saw all year last year.

All he did with that pick was take the consensus top talent. That's essentially giving him credit for not forgetting to breathe.

But Poe was a damn controversial pick. He wasn't a safe pick by any means and he wasn't an easy one. If Poe turns into a stud, Pioli gets a lot of credit for taking that risk and trusting that the talent could be unlocked.

He's the perfect size, build, and mentality to play C in the NFL.

He's as athletic as any big man can be (pre-injury) and does a great job learning new tech's and picks up schemes quick.

He was an all star G in college but is much better suited to C in the NFL. He doesn't have the bulk/size/strength to be a pure G...
