Bud Adams is 90, and knows he's got one foot in the grave. He is in "win-before-I-die" mode, and I really doubt there is a bigger "win-now" mode than that one.

Look at his comments regarding FA:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/15/bud-adams-knows-hes-overspending-and-loves-it/

Titans owner Bud Adams just turned 90 years old, and his goal must be to drop a million per year on free agents.

The Titans have been among the most aggressive players in free agency, a move Adams himself signed off on.

We want the right players, thats the main thing. We have to get the players we know can perform and make us look like were a tough team to play against again, Adams told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. [General manager] Ruston [Webster] knows how I feel about this thing now. . . . He is getting the job done.

There are certain guys we may have to pay a little more than they should maybe be getting, but I want to win. . . . We may have to pay some more money, but Im in. Im ready to go with it.

Frankly, the fact that Adams admits to overspending is great.

We needed to be aggressive. Mr. Adams gave his blessing and allowed us to be aggressive, Webster said. But it was actually fun to set a plan and then just go do it. . . . And these were the guys we targeted.

The Titans have spent $88.5 million on free agents, signing former Bills guard Andy Levitre (six years, $46.8 million) and former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker (four years, $17.5 million) on Tuesday, then coming back with former Lions defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill (three years, $11.4 million), former Jets running back Shonn Greene (three years, $10 million) and former Colts linebacker Moise Fokou (two years, $2.8 million).

Adams joked that he hopes the money translates into playoff appearances.

I may have a heart attack if we dont, he said. I just had my 90th birthday and somebody asked me, Adams, how long are you going to stay at this thing? I said Ive made it 90, so I might as well go to 100. And Id like to get in the playoffs and see some winning football over that stretch, too.

I am excited. I feel pretty good about these guys weve got now. And we have the draft coming up, too. Things are looking up.

Maybe, maybe not, but its still awesome to watch Adams take off the mittens and throw the cash around.

I think they will want Geno, and will do whatever it takes to get him. He doesn't give a ****, either, because if the team sucks in 4-5 years, he likely won't be there to suffer.

I bet we take them for everything they've got.

Sooooooo, Bud Adams is 90, spending tons of money with the TITANS to win now. How does that equate to an impending Buffalo trade rape?

If he wants to win now, he won't be trading up for Geno..Odds are Geno won't be a winner (starting QB) in the NFL for a few years depending on what team takes him..

All I know is we better molest somebody on draft day in a trade down deal.

Lest we forget, Bud Adams made his entire front office go after Peyton Manning in the early part of last year's FA period. By the time they were done most of the prime FA that could have actually helped the Titans last year were gone.

So yeah, we could basically take most of the Titan's draft picks. Bud Adams is just that bat s**t insane.

This is retarded. They aren't giving up on Locker yet. If dude doesn't take a big step foward this year though than his time in TN may be up. Locker still has a long ways to go but it hasn't been the best situation for him so far between injuries, the oline playing like shit and fucking chris palmer as OC.

Much more likely to be Cards or the Bills

The same way we raped SF by giving away the #34 pick in the draft for a backup QB that they were going to cut anyways.

SNR
03-15-2013, 03:24 PM
Yeah, what Spott said.

Dorsey's been a mixed bag this season. The Bowe contract is brilliant, and I'm pretty good with what we're giving Schwartz, Robinson, and Fasano. Sean Smith's deal is good for a #2 CB, but the issue is if he plays like a starting CB or not.

On the other hand you have the assraping we took from the Alex Smith trade. The Colquitt contract, while I don't really give a shit about it being overpriced because Colquitt is fucking awesome, is a huge head scratcher. That's a lot of bank we're giving to a punter.

Most of all, we not only got raped by San Fran on the Smith deal, but his comments before and after the combine about the QBs did a great job revealing our draft hand. Even if he doesn't like Geno, that's no reason to talk about that kind of stuff-- it destroys the trade down value. It's the exact same problem that failed to push through a Matt Cassel trade-- the mistiming of Chase Daniel. Oh, and then there's HIS overpriced contract.

If it weren't for all these free agents we were signing, I think teams would laugh at us if we ever called them up about a trade down offer.

I'm giving the guy a break, and I know this job is going to require a bit of a learning curve. But if he's still doing this shit and getting out-negotiated by teams in two or three seasons, then he has a problem.

KY is being applied at this very moment. And they aren't lubing up from teeny-peen Ryan Fitzpatrick.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/18/matt-hasselbeck-out-in-tennessee/

Anyone wondering why the Titans were talking to former Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick just got their answer.

The team has released a statement announcing that they were unable to reach an agreement on a restructured contract with quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and that the team will release him as a result. Hasselbeck was scheduled to make $5.5 million in 2013, a number that the team clearly felt was too much for a player who would have been a backup to Jake Locker. Hasselbeck acknowledged earlier this offseason that a pay cut might be necessary and seemed open to it, although appearances were deceiving.

“I want to thank Matt for his contributions to our team over the last two years,” Titans General Manager Ruston Webster said in the statement. “He was an important part of the transition process – he was a pro at every turn and he provided an example to the rest of the team. I know that we are a better team for his being here and we wish him the best.”

With Hasselbeck out of the picture, the Titans will need to find a new backup for Locker. That explains why they’re talking to Fitzpatrick, even if the conversations started as a way to leverage Hasselbeck into a pay cut that would have made him a viable option to remain in Tennessee.

We could have Hasselbeck for free. Instead we gave up an equivalent of a first round pick for someone worse. Great.

Would it be possible for a 3-team deal with the Bills AND Titans?

Maybe we could get some picks from the Bills through the Titans, or vice versa.
