Poll: George W. Bush's approval rating matches Obama's
April 23, 2013, 10:13 AM

More than four years after he left office, former President George W. Bush's approval rating now equal President Obama's, according to a new Washington Post/ ABC poll.

Forty-seven percent of Americans say they now approve of the former president, while 53 percent disapprove, according to the poll, which surveyed 1,000 adults from April 17-21. Mr. Obama's approval rating also stands at 47 percent.

Mr. Bush left office under a cloud of controversy, taking blame from the public for the 2008 financial crash, the Iraq war and his handling of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In an Oct. 2008 Washington Post poll, his approval rating was as low as 23 percent. By January 2009, when he left office, just 33 percent approved while 66 percent disapproved.

The former president's improved public image demonstrates how time out of office, and out of the public eye, can help bolster a politician's popularity. Mr. Bush may also get to refurbish his image with the opening of his presidential library this week on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

While his approval rating has increased in recent years, a majority of Americans (53 percent) still disapprove of his handling of the economy, and 57 percent disapprove of his decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

Seriously, Obama is going to have a PRIME TIME speaking slot at the 2016 DNC. Is there any doubt to that?

Meanwhile, Bush will not speak at the RNC, nor will his name ever get mentioned.

What does that tell you?

That they are equally popular in American politics?

Suppose Jeb Bush is the nominee or veep nom. No Dubyah?

Absolutely no W.

That'd be even worse.

The only way he lands a solid speaking slot is if it's in some package deal with a moderate candidate that desperately needs base enthusiasm, and the candidate isn't connected to the Bush family. Christie, maybe. But I doubt it.

It took a long time for the conservatives to become fed up with Bush and his policies. Not so much because they didn’t dislike them but, because it was their guy in office and we had bigger problems than the economy and the debt. Eventually one can only swallow so much excrement and still pretend it is chocolate pudding.

Too much spending, too much big Government, too high of deficits and too much treating to bill or rights as a list of suggestions. The current POTUS has continued and expanded on the majority of these and even found some new wasteful crap of his own.

I have many liberal friends and a growing number of them are exceptionally disappointed in how similar things have been under Obama. The rest have for the most part simply ignored the similarities. When faced with something they can’t honestly support there seem to be two standard defenses.
1. Pull the race card
or
2. let all say it out load now. “Well at least he isn’t Bush!” .

Sadly he is pretty much the same guy with a better ability to read a teleprompter. They have the same approval rating because they are the same guy.
