Good for him.

IIRC, he blew up over another issue recently. Taxes or pension or some bullshit.

I don't know if he's worth a shit for a politician, but you can't say he's not reading what's presented before him and not passionate.

Pension bill for govt workers. Given to them at 7:40 am, to be voted on at 8:00 am, 300 or so plus pages not seen before. Deadline to fit it into the budget that day or the next. IIRC.

Running theme for him is getting these massive bills/amendments at the the last minute with no chance for reasoned analysis or debate.

Problem as old as time with powerful Speakers, culminating in some on the federal level going so far as to suggest that bills SHOULD be passed before they undergo REVIEW.

Thanks.

Makes you wonder how much shit gets voted on with Cliffs Notes used instead of reading all the details.

"The system is broken"

Yes, it is. Every issue should have a required time in which it will be reviewed, and NO amendments will be allowed after it is presented.

All of that should be worked out before it is presented.

As crazy as that sounds, I wonder if that would actually make it easier to strike out certain sections of a bill by doing that? I mean once a bill is passed how hard, or time consuming, is it presently to amend it? If there actually was a review period, after passage, it might prove to be beneficial. At least if language was inserted at the last minute it would have less chance to "sneak" its way into a the final bill.

Of course this assumes that the review after the fact can indeed be used to modify or cancel.

The problem is that the government thinks that it is their job to create new laws and new programs every day. We have too many laws and government programs already.

Agreed.

Maybe they should start taking some of the old laws off the books instead. Like:
It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday.-Ohio
In Montana, it is illegal for married women to go fishing alone on Sundays, and illegal for unmarried women to fish alone at all.
If two trains meet on the same track, neither shall proceed until the other has passed.-Kansas
It is illegal to have oral sex.-Missouri
