Well you do make the trade if you want to win. If the royals don't win then it's a failure. But remember royals fans at least you're trying. That's all you can ask for. A team that consistently puts a guy into a save situation, doesn't mean he is a good closer when he racks up saves. Holland's strikeout rate is over DOUBLE that of Johnson's. Over DOUBLE! Holland has nasty shit and is only getting better. His shit is way fucking better as a closer, he just doesn't get the opportunities.
You are comparing apples to oranges when your fucking lame ass argument is save count. Holland would do that and better on the O's.

Well you do make the trade if you want to win. If the royals don't win then it's a failure. But remember royals fans at least you're trying. That's all you can ask for. You made the trade with intentions of winning. If you don't win then it's a failure. Myers will be evaluated in a couple years because he's a top young prospect he'll take time to develop. You only got Shields for 2 years, so if in 2 years you don't make the playoffs and finish in 3rd or 4th place then yes it's a failure.

Yes I agree. I, though a Sox fan, was on the fence with the trade because your other prospects aren't producing. On the other hand, you make the trade because you get a borderline ace. I just wasn't keen on trading Myers for a pitcher you have control of for only 2 years.

You didn't know our current prospects wouldn't be producing at the time of the trade. You can't analyze it that way.
And having control over pitchers for long periods of time is usually a poor strategy in today's baseball, apart from the few and far between young aces.

When you say Prospects do you mean Hosmer and Moustakas ? If so why cant you analyze it?
2012 Hosmer .232 Avg .304 OBP .359SLG 14HR 60 RBI 124 Hits 152 games played.
2012 Moustakas .242Avg .296 OBP .412 SLG 20HR 73 RBI 136 Hits 149 Games played
That's not gonna cut it in the AL for a 1st and 3rd baseman. Your GM had to know you needed O at the time of trade.

I would add that locking up frontline starters isn't something we can afford even if we wanted to. It's a big reason Tampa even traded him in the first place, and will likely trade Price
