The sad thing is I GUARANTEE you the Chargers take at least one game from KC, simply because Rivers > Smith.

He's not.

He's a better pure downfield passer than Smith, but that's it. He's incapable of dealing with a rush. He's immobile. He's not someone that is going to inspire his teammates.

If you give him a very good team and a very good line, I'd take him over Smith because at that point he doesn't need to worry about scrambling for his life and when things are going well, the leadership thing doesn't matter.

But if you give me the aggregate 'average' football team and ask me to pick a QB, I'd take Smith under center by a nose.

Rivers and Smith are essentially mirror images of each other, when you get right down to it. I don't think you can categorically state that Rivers is better than Smith because his flaws are so easily exposed and exacerbated.

Browns are a big time sleeper. Their defense was passable with Rob Ryan as coach. Ray Horton was an absolute steal and the difference in the defense is going to be night and day. Weeden is still a bit unpolished. But I think they'll have a terrific running game.

I don't think they win the division unless Horton completely surprises with that defense. But they're going to be a very tough out this year.

I think that is debatable.

I think the Ravens are far overrated as far as talent goes. Especially on the offensive side of the ball.

They have Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, and Torrey Smith. They have an average oline, and not much else.

Their front 7 is about the deepest in football.

Their secondary is kind of a worry, cause outside of Ward, and Haden, its very young, and unknown. But if they can keep pressure on qbs, that's going to take care of itself.

The browns? No, not better, but its deeper. There is so much depth on the dline, and olbs. They aren't even going to start Mingo, or Groves. To back up Sheard, and Kruger.....they are a legit 6 deep on the Oline with Billy Winn John Hughes, and Kitchens as back ups to Rubin, Bryant, and Taylor.

The bengals d line is beastly....

I have. I have buddies who are Cleveland fans so I've seen more of Cleveland than I need to.

We all know it's preseason. He's miles better than last year and a better offensive scheme helps. But his mechanics on a simple screen pass are still terrible. You still have to put a lot of faith in the guy to execute when defenses start throwing some curve balls at you.

completely disagree. Completely. Homer isms aside, they didn't know how Sheard was going to do as a stand up lb, and Kruger graded out very VERY well last year. He graded out as the 6 best olb in the league last year. They hurt a division rival, and hes a vet that can teach Sheard, and Mingo how to play at a high level. Media controls everything though. You just know that if the Browns were playing one of the media darlings in the playoffs Goodell would fix that MFer up so much that it'd make fraud look like an idealest word. That's what he graded out as for last year. I think you can grade out as something, and not be that. See Alex Smith. He graded out as a top what 10 qb? We know he isn't that. Just like for instance Sean Smith, Clay loves to destroy him because of his rating. Hes not nearly that bad.

Their offense will be solid. Keep in mind that they'll be running the Coryell offense, which I think is perfect for their personnel is the same offense that made average receivers in both San Diego and Kansas City an electric passing offense.

Cleveland is always going to be the underdog just because Flacco and Big Ben are in that division. But they could surprisingly give other teams in that division a run for their money if Weeden plays well.

Starters: Dallas @ Arizona

Nice to see Larry Fitzgerald have a QB throw him some balls.

Some confusion with Palmer and receivers - learning a new offense will do that.

I think Dez Bryant had one or two drops - other than that, he looked good. Typical preseason game. I think Dallas had three fumbles.

Romo was flinging the ball - He completed a lot of yards, no TDs.

Dallas' defense looks very good against the run. Okay against the pass. They look better in the 4-3 than the 3-4. They were all around the ball. They look good.

All in all, Cowboys having a nice game.

I completely agree about putting the QB in danger but the shotgun doesn't put your qb in any extra danger. The pistol is just a formation which offers much of the advantages of the shotgun and i-form style sets.

One can run a pretty standard offense out of the pistol without really adding danger to the QB, I think that it is just a more formidable formation

Dylan,

I never disagreed with the fact that running QB's don't last long. I blame Shanahan much more than RGIII because as a player you will do everything to win, Shanahan has to not call so many designed runs.

In terms of the pistol being the reason behind the running I disagree. Not pointing to you in particular but I keep hearing people use the same argument against the pistol becoming more mainstream, that it kills the qb. I continue to believe that the pistol is being confused for the read option. The read option and designed QB sweeps will get someone killed.

Sorter can probably do a much better job than me of describing it but the pistol is just a family of formations, just as the shotgun is.

Any play that the shotgun can run the pistol can run, any play that the I-form can run the pistol can also run. It gives a broader field of vision, a head start on the long stretch plays, and a quarterback has less time with the back to the defense on a play action as he is closer to the runner.

Denver is adding the pistol to their offense and Manning is not mobile. In college football Alabama is using it and AJ sure isn't that mobile.

In short Shanahan overused RGIII but the pistol itself doesn't make it more dangerous to a quarterback

Thank you for the response cybortable - you make a good point.

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds. RGII was the NFL offensive rookie of the year after rushing for approx 900 yards and it took a tremendous toll on his body. Traditional QBs are hit all the time; put few of them miss games.

NFL defenses are more sophisticated than the college defenses - Last season these young QBs terrorized defenses - However, this season it will be interesting to see how NFL defensive coaches come up with a physically and schematically system to solve the problem.

I hope you do not mind this question - are you a Jets fan or Chiefs fan?

Thanks in advance.

I don't care about the score. I just want to see the team play well, and we have. The score means jack squat in the preseason.

How have you played well? Even all the NFLN guys are saying aside from Manning and TOP, Denver isn't. Turning the ball over isn't playing well. Giving up return TDs isn't playing well.

We moved the ball at will against the Seahawks first string, the Chiefs couldn't move the ball at all against the 49ers second string. No, this division will not be close.

There's that vaunted Denver secondary! Your secondary sucks so bad Baldwin will abuse it...ah maybe not ROFL Bowe will though

Just wait, KnowMo is going to pull up some stats that will prove you wrong. Their nickel is ADAMANTIUM, inde*******structible!!!!

Vasquez is sitting on the bench, talking with Chris Kuper now. Looks to be in OK shape, but not going back in the game. Helmet is off.https://twitter.com/MaseDenver/status/368940127315185664

Apparently in Knowmo's world, even when the Donks allow an 107-yard kickoff return TD, a 106-yard fumble return TD, and turn it over three times in the first half alone, they're still "playing well." And that's ignoring the score.

Curse of death whenever football analysis’s mention an NFL team in the same sentence as Super Bowl.

No way, he's burnt toast anyway but damn the Broncos are getting bruised up.

No way Seattle has TWO quarterbacks better than our starter? Right? No way...

He definitely hobbled off the field on that last TD.

Though it's amusing to see the Broncos play an awful game, I hope he's OK. He's one of the few Broncos players I just can't bring myself to hate.

I think they mentioned during a broadcast (I might have read it), that head coaches are concerned the new practice rules of one padded practice per day, has led to more football related injuries due to the lack of offseason conditioning and practices.

Something to think about.
