There are plenty of jobs where all your work is shown on one day or a small group of days. Lawyers can work as hard as they want in trial prep, but it's the actual trial that determines their fate. Practicing matters, but players most certainly get their contracts based off their play on Sunday, not the rest. I am not saying practice isn't important, because it is. But players get paid for what they do on Sunday. The rest is all just prep work to help get results on that day. However, that doesn't mean Sunday is the hard day work ethic-wise.

Mine wouldn't allow paid bereavement leave, but it would allow PTO (vacation) or unpaid leave. I'm pretty sure most companies would give you the time off, just not pay for it unless it was out of your vacation.
