My stepson loves space and astronomy type stuff. My wife and I know nothing about it, as I am just a goofy coal miner. We are looking to spend between 4-500 bucks for a new telescope, and would like to find one that is motorized with GPS capabilities.

The planet is a large think tank with many people that have a broad interest range so surely there is an astronomy geek among us. Please help. I typed this from an iPhone so I don't need grammar lessons or anything like that.

Yeah, you need to talk to Dave Lane. You may also want to see if there's an astronomy club in your area.

No, no. There was just something about the second major douche migration that caused me to grow weary.

Once baseball season gets going (or even NFL FA begins), I'm sure I'll be around a bit more.

I'm gonna post what I just PM'd him as a general bit of info I usually send just for anyone thats thinking about the possibility.

Here's one that probably is a good choice for viewing the moon, Jupiter, Saturn and maybe a few brighter objects. I believe they have an optional GPS unit you can get and still be in your budget.

I have another update idea as well but it would involve finding a astronomy club in your area. You look pretty remote which is good for seeing things in the sky but not as great for finding a club.

Heres a list for Kentucky:

And Tennessee

These can be a great resource as they often meet when the moon is new (or very small) and have dozens of telescopes you can look through to see if there is one you like. You also may be able to buy a hand me down one for not much money. Most astro nuts are pretty glad to have anyone look through their telescope and show you stuff.

If you can't find one near by or don't want to, the scope I listed is a nice little scope that will show your kids some nice views without breaking the bank.
