View Full Version : Chiefs Choose a past QB bust you'd like to have on our roster

Thinking of all the QBs who turned out to be draft busts, it seems that often they are thrown into bad situations on bad teams, and they find their way out of the league as a result. Often it's because they just didn't have "it" and you can't help but wonder if they'd have worked out in another situation.

Of all the QB busts in recent years, which one would you add to our team as a 21-22 year old rookie? If you could transport one of these busts through time and put him on our roster today, to give him a shot in a different set of circumstances, who would you choose off the scrap heap of the past?

One that I thought of was Tim Couch. He was a spread QB in college that never made the transition, and was dropped in to starting day 1 on an expansion team. A guy like that needs time to make the transition to an NFL offense.

He may not qualify as a bust yet. But honestly, I would've taken RG3. I watched his games at Baylor and thought he was gonna be great! Guess I got that one wrong. Feel bad for the guy.

I'd still take Culpepper or David Carr, though.

Eleazar

When you look at these guys and try to understand why they might have failed, you have a few different reasons why a QB fails

-Fails to develop / fails to transition to pro system (Couch)
-Drafted into a bad situation / no talent around him / crap franchise (Carr)
-Injury prone (RGknee)
-Headcase, mental or "makeup" issues (Leaf, Harrington)
-Overrated/not truly talented enough / shouldn't have been a high pick (Akili Smith)

I would only think of guys in the first two categories and not the last three. You can't fix those flaws.

I thought we should have kept Kyle Orton for the cost of no draft picks and drafted a QB. I would have probably took Gino which doesn’t look great right now but might have worked out better if he had a year or two to sit and watch.

LOL
Well we had Orton on the team, all we had to do was pay him like a mediocre QB. Alex Smith Might be a little better “maybe” but, we would not have needed to give anything up. I really thought Gino was going to be a stud. This has not been the case at this point but, we could have got both of them for one 2nd round pick. Contrary to the Todd Blackledge rule you CAN pick another QB if the one you drafted doesn’t work out. The freaking Raiders have been the poster child for wasted QB picks but at least they keep trying. Why is a fat mediocre DL a better use of a 1st round pick than rolling the dice on a QB until you hit on a winner. FWIW I don’t think Alex Smith sucks. He would put up very good numbers if he had the talent around him that Manning does.

The whole Orton thing doesn't matter. Why? He doesn't really want to play. He wants to be a backup and sit on his butt and collect a paycheck for doing nothing. FACT.

Only on a Chiefs board. We are so starved for taking a chance on drafting a QB, that we dream about taking chances on QBs that already busted. The Chiefs QB approach is just cruel and unusual.
