Anybody into it around here?

I'm thinking of picking it up for something to do while my head heals. (Or maybe actually after everything and I can wear a helmet comfortably.)

What are the good deck manufacturers these days?

I was big into it in college. Fairly easy if you have any coordination about you. Much easier than actual skateboarding. Sector 9 is a good intro level brand, easy to ride them and tough to break them. If you get into bombing any bigger hills or decide to take up the really technical trick side of things you might consider an upgrade. I recommend their bamboo series.

Pickup cycling/mountain biking instead, less chance of hitting your head.

I hit my head mountain biking all the time, but then again I like to ride some pretty gnarly shit.

In HS (Early '80's) my friend had a half-pipe built in his backyard. Took up his whole yard. We used to drop in from his roof. Spent hours doing it every day after school (and during). What a BLAST!

Now, I ride a "42 long board. I ride it a lot and use it to run local errands. Last Saturday, I took it to the jogging track in the morning. Ran a few miles and skated home. Its so much fun just to skate around the neighborhood. I'll always skate! :)

My joints aren't what they use to be so I can't do all the half pipes. So I'll be looking for a beach cruiser board like this.

Nothing wrong with that. That's the size I ride these days. Mine's not electric, but to each his own. Gotta evolve so u never get too old for the sport. ;)
