According to one website, it is listed at $1725 above the average asking price. This one has the Hefty floor liner, tow package, below average mileage, etc. though. Just wondering what smarter people than me think. Thanks.

On the Carfax, it lists an accident and airbag deployment. When I asked the sales associate if they had more information, they said the vehicle rear ended someone at a stop light and the steering wheel airbag deployed. Maintenance was performed, wheels aligned, etc. There's no front end damage reported, so I'm guessing the motor wasn't affected?

Really? I thought Jeep was one of those that you could drive into the ground. The mileage is really good for the year, and it appears to have been well-maintained.

They used to be. Jeep hasn't been the same since they were bought out by Dodge/Chrystler but they still thrive on the old reputation.

The only Jeep brand vehicle that is still remotely as rugged as its reputation makes it out to be is the Wrangler. The Cherokee fair ok and everything else they put out is junk.

Too much, and they ALWAYS have issues. Not to mention airbag deployment etc.

That 3.7 liter v6 is plagued with issues. Its the 4.0 straight six that they got rid of in years prior that was the beastly bulletproof motor you always heard about, and thats the ONLY good thing they made.

PM me lets find you a real deal~

I think it's more of a braking problem .The airbag seems to deploy when they smash into the back of other vehicles.

Baconeater seems to be pretty happy with his.

Lots of opinions, even in this thread by people that heard or read something somewhere but haven't actually owned one.

Of course, I am well known to be biased.

I own a 3.7 in our 07 Nitro, 83k, but I take obsessive care of my stuff with oil changes and other maintenance.

Our Nitro has had more problems than every car we have ever owned combined, but the engine is not one of them.

I swear it was put together on a Monday with parts rejected from the previous week. But it was all fixed under warranty and is a fine dependable SUV now.

It sounds high priced to me, and I would want nothing to do with a vehicle that has had an air bag deploy.

Oh, and AMC (rambler) is the company that put out some real crap under the jeep name when they owned it.

The Daimler buyout is when things seemed to go downhill, I've noticed a significant difference in quality, especially the electrical components, in my pre and post buyout Chryslers. Not sure if things have improved much since then. But the 90's stuff is still very sought after by off road enthusiasts. You see that shit all over where you live.

And I wouldn't buy a Jeep that didn't have the 4.0 I6 in it.

Seems over priced with closing in on triple digit miles. You could have a much better, smallish type SUV with a ton of lower miles for about about the same price. Seen a Nissan Rogue with 30k miles the other day right around the same price.

Have you looked outside of Springfield? Traveling a couple hundred miles opens up so many buying opportunities at dealerships.

For the record, I've had had very few issues with my 02 Jeep with almost 130k miles. I did have to replace a valve after I bought it but that's been the only issue. Oh and the front end alignment was all fucked up and I had to have that fixed. Oh and one of the window motors need to be replaced recently. But I'm sure nothing else will go wrong.

Plug it under the dash of any car you are looking to buy and it will tell you about major potential problems and if anything was recently cleared that may not let you pass inspection.

Good towing capacity
Less than 100k miles
The higher the mileage, the lower the price. Hoping to stay at or below $12k for this type of vehicle.

I hate to beat up a newer low mile Mitsubishi that bad, but the things are tin cans, they are super cheap and chintzy. However, that one has a bunch of warranty left. If you buy it knowing that after your warranty runs out you are treading on thin ice it might not be a bad deal. So, if its a 2-3 year car you might be OK, but be warned, they also poor resale value.

Hyundais are a mid tier type car, and that's not bad. Certainly better than the Chrysler, BMW< and Mitsubishi's of the world. They also have a 5yr/60k bumper to bumper warranty. So, if you find a low mileage one, you are covered if any issues arrive for the first part of ownership.

cx-5 is smaller than the santa fe, depends on if she needs the room.

a CX-5 is an Escape in a Mazda badge, and while I think overall they are better cars than Hyundais, because of the number of Escapes available you can get better value in that vehicle. UNless you really like the styling of the cx-5, there is always that.

CVT trans can be a point of contention for people sometimes.

It does its job great.. drives nicely, gets fuel mileage, and aside from a couple of older years (which Nissan extended warranty on) they have been very reliable.

It also feels 'wrong' to some, and is next to useless for towing~

If your just going to drive a vehicle, its a fine choice.

It's awfully strange to not have your car shift, that's taken some getting used to but I don't think it's done anything to hurt theperformance. I do like the fact that when I go to pass another vehicle and I nail it, it just takes off.

Due to my travels, I've driven almost every SUV that is out there. I finally stopped renting for 2 weeks 6 times a years and bought my own, but my recommendation is Explore #1, Hyundai Santa Fe and the GMC Terrain. Most the other stuff was too small and cheap feeling to drive. Out of 24 rentals in very very rough duty those 3 are my favorites to drive.

I parked on one of your lots and told the guy there to call you if there was a problem.

We've still got a few questions to ask, but, if things work out, I think we may have the Nissan soon. Fingers crossed.

In looking on repairpal.com, there are three recalls listed. One was in February 2008. How can a 2009 be recalled so early in 2008? While in production?

Yep.

IIRC that was the year the Murano skipped a model year too. They went straight from 2007 to 2009 model year and released early in 2008.

Nissan is now ours. Got it for $13,500. They were also generous with the value of boyfriend's trade-in (he got about $1000 more for it than I thought he'd get).

Thanks for the advice, guys. Much appreciated!
