Some of this stuff is pretty funny, but pretty stupid too. -jm-

Look out, Dennis Miller and Big Bird

By JASON WHITLOCK - Columnist Kansas City Star

Time to open the e-mail bag:

"Dear Jason: Why did you shame black people and beg that Roy Williams to stay? Get off your knees, black man. Never beg a white man again."

Steve X.

JW: Steve, this comment is so X-traordinarily stupid, I'm not even going to respond.

"I can't believe you have the nerve to be so critical of the broadcasters on `Monday Night Football.' I've seen you on Channel 9, and as a broadcaster, believe me, you are the worst!!!"

Betty Melton

JW: Betty, you'll be surprised to learn that I graduated with honors from the Dennis Miller School of Sports Broadcasting. I finished second in my class, just behind Eric Dickerson.

"I found a great way to enjoy `Monday Night Football' with Dennis Miller. It was really quite simple, just turn off the sound on your TV."

Jack Baker

JW: Jack, I suspect you'll be getting an e-mail from Betty Melton in the near future.

"Jason, please explain to this community how for months we hear that Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson, Latrell Sprewell and many more NBA players are going to play in Kansas City, but no one from the league offices was notified. All of this comes out 36 hours before the game?"

Timothy Hayes

JW: When greed, ego and incompetence all collide, bad things happen.

"I was very pleasantly surprised when I tuned into the `Sports Reporters' on Sunday morning. My first thought was, `How in the world did he swing this gig?' I don't know how you did it, but you were a breath of fresh air. You spoke your mind and did so in a very professional manner. Even though I do not always agree with you (who in KC does?) I was proud of the fact that you were representing KC and The Star on national television. Two questions: 1. Were you chosen because you were the only writer who could adequately fill Bill Conlin's chair? 2. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SUIT???? Big Bird lives!"

Mike McNamara

JW: A friend suggested that my bright wardrobe and considerable girth made it look as if I had swallowed ESPN's Sterling Sharpe before the show.

"I am a positive person, and I feel that Elvis (Grbac) wouldn't have done the same thing in the regular season. I know that all you ever see is the bad things that the Chiefs do and I have come to expect it from you. But look at what they did with the running game Saturday. It looked improved, and I will be glad to see them run the ball 50 times a game. I think you need to get on out of KC and go support the team of your choice that will do everything you want it to do so you can write something good about them. Face it. You are not and never will be a CHIEFS FAN."

Scott Booher

JW: The problem, Scott, is that Ball State University won't take my football advice either. Grbac's third-down spike was about as stupid as my Cardinals scheduling Florida and Kansas State in the same season.

"Obviously, you don't know much about football, or you wouldn't have written such a stupid column. I would like to see you go in there and run the football team. On second thought, I wouldn't. I don't want to see the Chiefs go 0-16 for a year. The only people who like your columns are the backwoods, hillbilly morons who don't know their (backside) from a hole in the ground."

Adam Tyler

JW: My immediate family members are the only people I know who enjoy my columns, and I must admit that your description is quite accurate.

This one is the best:

I thought the part about Bill Conlans chair was particularly funny, true, but funny.

It is obvious that the vast majority of KC fans hate the guy (present poster included) and that is precisely why he is still there. Sensationalism at its best.....
