View Full Version : Am I the Only person on this planet that has not watched a minute of SURVIVOR ?

I guess since i have not watched it I can not give an oppinion. However, don't people have better things to do, its summer for
goodness sake. My .02 cents worth.

Me either

Henry-I watch one program, that's it. Ask me anything about anything else on tv except that or the Chiefs/Rams/Tigers and you will get a blank stare.

Actually it was pretty good TV. (Or is that an oxymoron?)

I watched about twenty minutes of it one night. Seemed overwraught and silly to me. Other than that, read stories about it in the paper. Good bathroom material.

08-23-2000, 10:21 PM
I watched it but only one finalist deserved it (the retired Navy Seal) but he was voted out.

Nope I haven't seen it either.

08-23-2000, 11:27 PM
I'd be embarrassed to admit this in real life, but its easy to hide when you're just a cyberguy labled "lurker." I've tried to watch some of it to see whats up with the phenominal success. The production is so bad its insulting. The target IQ is so base and primitive that it feels like an indictment of your character just to watch it. Base, bane, more than and a waste of time.

I watched zero episodes. I wasn't even sure what it was when I first noticed Hall post about it on sportswaves.com

Pop culture, who needs it? http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

08-23-2000, 11:38 PM
I've never seen the show, but let me guess...

It's on network TV, aimed at an audiance with an average of an 8th grade education, and what you can learn from watching it (it's intrinsic value) is zero.

am i close?...

08-23-2000, 11:40 PM
I will admit to watching Gilligan's Island.

08-23-2000, 11:40 PM
I've seen it because my g/f digs it. I don't think I could tell you any of their names if that indicates what my interest level is/was. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the outback stuff next year though. I have my kids for 2 hours on Wednesday nights so I rarely tuned in otherwise I'd probably have watched more often. I'll be sure and let the g/f know about your sentiment, UD. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif

08-23-2000, 11:52 PM
Dang, KPhobia.....I didn't mean to insult your g/f! I should try and be more accepting of stuff that doesn't appeal to me. If she likes Survivor, don't show her my post. Hey, millions of people like Barbara Strieshand. I can't even stand to look at or listen to her. To each his own....

It's cool, UD. Hence the http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif....

Sometimes she likes funky things. When I met her, she was a Cowgirls fan but I think that was more of a geographical & Aikman thing anyway....

I haven't seen a single moment of Survivor or Big Brother....And for some reason, I feel strangely proud saying that!

08-24-2000, 06:07 AM
No Luz, you hit the nail on the head.

Haven't seen it and when they start talking about it on the news I change the channel.

~too busy to waste time with incoherent crap.

08-24-2000, 06:34 AM
Never watched it either, after seeing the first "vote" while flicking through the channels. It looked like a stage setting. From then on I ignored any radio or TV coverage of it. Glad to see I am not alone!

08-24-2000, 06:40 AM
Bob Dole never watched a minute of it.

08-24-2000, 07:12 AM
What's Survivor?

08-24-2000, 07:15 AM
I've never watched it...in fact never heard of it until Henry posted this...I must of been out to lunch all summer long!

08-24-2000, 07:16 AM
Never watched it. Never will. Think a lot of people need to get a life especially survivor wannabee's.

08-24-2000, 07:33 AM
Count me in as one who NEVER even cared....

It's like yuppies trying to live the MTV life..then they had to go and put on "Big Brother" and I had to laugh when it failed miserably.

"When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same"

The show may gag you, but there is something interesting in the amazing popularity. Some voyueristic (sp) tendency of our new wave society is being addressed by Survivor and Big Brother. The rules are set up to pit one against the others, and the audience eats it up. They get to watch true pain, deception, backstabbing, and tears. Like peeping thru the window at a dysfunctional family as they hurt each other. Why are we drawn to this spectacle of artificially induced but real human suffering? Most are repulsed by it, but many, many folks eat it up like candy. The shows popularity says something about us in general, but I'm not yet sure what that is.

Uck... 'reality' shows. What a farce! OK, stick 10-15 totally different individuals into a confined area - force them to interact on a constant basis, where competition, i.e. the quest to win $1mil or whatever, forces them to single each other out for expulsion. Yeah, that sounds like my life all right! 'Reality' based my *** !

The Real Whiners, errr World™ was enough to make me HATE, not dislike, not grudgingly accept, but HATE MTV. Now the 'big three' (CBS, ABC, NBC) want to copy from MTV's template? Bleccchhh... makes me ill. I wonder how long it'll take before FOX comes out with their own 'extreme reality based' show.

[i]Insert witty commentary here

08-24-2000, 10:00 AM
I never watched it until the last 10 minutes last night. I can't believe they voted for the sissy.

08-24-2000, 10:39 AM
I once watched about 4 minutes of COPS before I became too depressed to continue.

gets enough reality during the day.
08-24-2000, 07:17 PM
I haven't watched any of it. I heard that Jimmy Raye was about to be voted ON the island... all by himself!

08-24-2000, 08:00 PM
I hated reality TV when Cops and America's Most Wanted came out. I have not watched a single video episodic show since.....

08-24-2000, 08:03 PM
Okay, if you want reality TV, give me either something like the Running Man or a game show where you bet body parts against dollars.....

"Alright Simon, the category is World Rulers for $400. At $400 you must risk at least 2 fingers against a wrong answer. Are you ready?"
