Two names are on the top of the Tar Heel wish list -- New Orleans Saints linebackers coach and former Tar Heel player John Bunting and former Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns coach and current ESPN analyst Marty Schottenheimer. Bunting played at Carolina from 1968-71 and is the leading candidate, but Schottenheimer had a second interview recently, according to the Charlotte Observer. Also in the mix is Western Michigan's Gary Darnell.

I just read on NFLTalk, there are some rumors about Carl going to San Diego, and taking Marty with him. What a coup that would be. Unfortunately, he will probably end up being a Tarheel for a couple years, until he realizes, there is so much more to college coaching, than the Xs and Os.

It would be nice if Marty would go to SD, won't they have a high draft choice this year.....

Do you think Marty would want to work under Carl again?I was under the impression that there was a bit of a power struggle between the two.

Uh, gentlemen we don't want Marty in the AFC West. That means we'd face him twice yearly and most likely get our heads handed to us. Marty is one of the best regular season coaches. He's only crappy in the post-season.

I want Marty preferably in the NFC or a non-west AFC division. Cinci would look real nice.

Marty @ NC, now that might be good for Marty. Being successful in the regular season and not in the playoffs, it's probably best to coach in a sport that doesnt have playoffs.

He might actually see some success in the 'polls' or BCS Rankings. Of course, if he made it to a BCS Bowl, I would fully expect to see him wither into that cocoon of conservatism that would baffle his new fan base.
