ARod making 25 million a year for 10 years!!! This is absurd! And it is being funded by all of US at the grocery store, shoe store, car dealership, etc...

The worst part is, football players have to be watching this. The NFL is the game in town, and I fear that when contract time comes up again, the players are going to want in on ARod type of money.
I'm not paying for it. I haven't watched a game since 94(even on TV). Only the suckers who go to the games & buy all the memoribilia are paying for it.

So pissed I couldn't even finish.

Who could blame Elvis if he wants to cash in his 10 million signing bonus. Hell, even Appier just signed a 4 year 40 million dollar deal.

And, no, I am not just jealous. It is comming out of my pocket everytime I go to the store!!!! Hell, I can't even afford to take my family to a game in person now, and I am talking football. I could give a crap less about baseball!!!

But baseball doesn't have salary caps or revenue sharing. Those facts are going to kill baseball eventually..

Mizzou5,

Yes you are paying for it!!! What do you think the television money comes from? COMMERCIALS!!! How are commercials paid for? By you and me at the store!!!

I don't even know what they advertise during baseball games so I guess I could be paying for it that way.

10 years ..A quarter BILLION dollars...sheesh..

A-Rod is a great player and I'm dissapointed he didn't stay here, but that much salary tied into one player makes it difficult to build a team..'

See ya A-Rod

As conservatives like to say, "Whatever the market will bear...".

It makes me not even want to go to the games. At some point it is not a matter of affordability, it is a matter of principle.

1. You could buy the "best choice" or whatever and avoid the advertising markup.
2. Kansas City is a very affordable place to watch good baseball. Seven bucks for a ticket plus 7 more for parking. Not too shabby. AND, you don't have to worry about them EVER offering a contract like that. They will play decent ball with minor leaguers if they have too.

Not me. I don't go to major league games. Little league is a lot more fun. Especially when the parents start brawling!

From ESPN.com:

A whole TEAM you could field for less than A-Rod's $21m owed to him for 2001 (based on 2000 salaries).......

C: Jason Kendall, $2.25 million
1B: Jason Giambi, $3.1 million
2B: Jeff Kent, $6 million
3B: Fernando Tatis, $750,000
SS: Miguel Tejada, $290,000
LF: Darin Erstad, $2.1 million
CF: Brian Giles, $1.8 million
RF: Vladimir Guerrero, $3.5 million
DH: Magglio Ordonez, $425,000
SP: Tim Hudson, $250,000
RP: Keith Foulke, $375,000

Total team payroll: $20.84 million

In case you didn't notice, BOTH league MVP's are on that team!
