View Full Version : INDY at KC.......Time To Pick Your Score!!!

08-26-2000, 07:20 AM
Greetings! The pre-season has looked, for lack of a better term....UGLY. The Colts seem to have all the big guns to wack the Chiefs, but it's opening day at Arrowhead. This is a 100% homer pick, I'll be the first to admit it but I'll start off the season by going Chiefs 28 Colts 27 in an upset. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

08-26-2000, 07:59 AM

FWIW, I get the feeling we can run the ball on Indy. We did that well last year, at least early in the game if I remember rightly. We need to win the time of possession battle by about a 2:1 ratio, as well as the TO battle if we pull this one off. Manning WILL burn us deep at will unless something drastic changes, and that will have to be the emergence of an excellent pass rush, rather than good one-on-one coverage by DBs IMO. I don't see us winning, but I do see us putting up a strong showing. Colts 27, Chiefs 20.

08-26-2000, 09:06 AM
Colts 31 Chiefs 10. I hate saying that.

08-26-2000, 09:07 AM
I predict as Frazod said in another thread a nuclear a$$ whupping. The Chiefs last year looked clueless in their opener against the Bears, anyone remember that fiasco? This could get ugly early. If they score a couple of quick TD's the skybox stooge will hit the panic button and go postal with the pass which isn't exactly our strong suit.

I think this has 35-7 written all over it. Maybe Gun has been just playing along and making everyone think we $uck, but from his look on the sideline I fear it maybe that we do indeed $uck.

Still I dream of a cold frosty day probably too far away when the Chiefs are still playing football in mid January

08-26-2000, 09:19 AM
I'm steeling myself for a huge defeat next Sunday. We simply aren't ready to compete with such a powerful oppenent yet. I know its home opener and the D.T. tribute game-- More's the pity. I am hoping for at least a decent, cohesive ballclub on the field vs the Colts. Victory, sad to say, is probably not within our grasp. Gunther may have much to answer for before the season's over.

Hoping against hope that I'm wrong; That everything's in place and that we come out hungry and lean. That we hear and answer the call of the Arrowhead faithful. That we do justice to Derrick Thomas' memory.

08-26-2000, 09:28 AM
This is a serious prediction.

35-17 Chiefs.

The Colts WILL be underestimating us and it's their first game also.

We have the DT factor and I think you will see a truly motivated, hard hitting, turnover causing team on the field. Our running game is better than last years and so are our STs.

I wouldn't be surprised to see our D score 14 pts this game.

Look for Chester and Clemmons to have big games on D. On O, Cloud and Richardson could gain 100 yds each. If that even comes close to happening, then Gonzales and/or Alexander are going to have some TDs.

ok, fire away at me, just save this post...

08-26-2000, 09:40 AM

No flames from me. I have no information upon which to make a prediction. You cannot evaluate the Chiefs from preseason games when the Head Coach refuses to game plan for preseason games. Good idea or not, that is the way it will be as long as Gunther is HC.

In a factual vacuum, you must base your prediction on the "paper" team, gut instinct and Homerism.

Paper team: The Colts have the kind of O that can trash an aggressive, attacking D. Manning is the best QB in the NFL [Warner Homers chill out, please, your man had one good season and might eventually take over the top spot, but has not earned it yet]. James is certainly one of the elite HBs and Harrison is a great WR. This is the kind of balanced Offense the Broncos rode to two championships. Where do you attack a truly balanced Offense?

Gut instinct: The Chiefs will be pumped for this game. Gunther will unleash the Defense on Manning and accept the occasional blown coverage for a big play. There is really no other choice. We will not shut the Colts down with a conservative, "bend, but don't break" Defense. Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war.

Homerism: Arrowhead. DT tribute. A chance to atone for a lousy end to last season.

Prediction: If we get a pass rush from our front four, we can win a hard-fought, low scoring smashmouth game by keeping the ball on the ground. If we do not get the pass rush, we receive the nuclear *** whupping [great term, BTW].

FWIW, if I were to bet on the game [which I will not], I would put my money on the Colts.

yes, he's ready for some football.
08-26-2000, 09:45 AM

Great analysis (as usual).

Let’s hope what needs to happen happens.

Go chiefs…
08-26-2000, 09:48 AM
I must believe, out of homerism and hope, that the open offense we heard about during the summer camps, and training camp, will finally be unveiled (Moe notwithstanding), and that Chiefs will catch the Colts by surprise. With that hope in mind, my score Chiefs 38-24.

I think the D will attack hard and attack successfully. Our ground game wiil prevail, with generous help from our air corps.

Ok I'm going out on a limb here and say the Chiefs will win 27-24. I agree with those who say that the home crowd, DT's memory, and the ground game will keep us in it as well as our defense coming around. Don't forget that we lost to the Colt's last year 17-25, on their home turf, and were in the game till almost the end. I will agree that Indy has a very powerful "O". The problem last year was their defense. Granted if our offense comes around this weekend, I believe we can score points on their defense. That's if the Colts haven't addressed their defensive problems. I didn't see anything in the preseason to indicate that they had. Of course it was just preseason. I feel this game could be very interesting and a nailbiter (I hate those cuz they cause me to pace). Let's not panic untill we've seen a few games.

This is tough. Normally I'd have supreme confidence in picking the Chiefs to win their home opener, but after seeing all the problems with our team in preseason, I'll go with the Colts 31-17.

Offensively we'll either come out with our usual vanilla atack that has failed us miserably in the preseason, or we'll finally unveil our opened-up offense which will produce mistakes due to a lack of practice with it in game situations. We should be able to run the ball well, but I have my doubts about our passing attack.

Defensively we could be primed for a shredding by Manning and Harrison. We don't seem capable of stopping anybody on 3rd and long either. Screen passes will again plague us, and James should have a good day. Our DL will probably struggle to get pressure against a real OL.

Why all the gloom and doom on these boards? I know there are more questions than answers at this point. I would just like to see a few regular season games before I see what kind of team we have. If the problems continue through the regular season then I would see the need to worry. Until then:

There are 2 reason why the Chiefs will win. These may sound old, but they are set in stone, like death and taxes......

#1. Arrowhead. When was the last time we lost a home opener? Can you remember that far back? Peyton won't be able to hear himself and will be hurried all day. I don't want to hear about him burning us with the long bomb. That may happen a time or two, but I'll take that along with the 5 or 6 sacks we get on him.

#2. Derrick Thomas. THIS is the DT game, and our guys will come out of the gate with him on their minds. As I saw someone post earlier, I think that Gunther is waiting to play the "DT card" until this week, and when he does.....we're going to see the real Chiefs.

We will NOT get blown out. I don't see how any of you can predict that. We played this exact same team IN Indy at the RCA Dome and would have won had the ball bounced our way at the end. Now THEY are coming into Arrowhead, yes Arrowhead, the loudest and proudest place in the NFL, where audibles for opposing QBs are non-existant. We don't get blown out at AH, and we don't lose very often at all.

This will be a close game, but there is too much riding here for me to predict a loss.

Colts 17

Chiefs held James and Harrison in check last year. We got beat by James in the passing game. If we let him catch the swing passes again this year outside our containment, Kurt Shotty must go.

We will be able to run on these guys, and if we don't have a special teams melt down (killed us last year in this game) we should pull out a win.

Something different I would like to see. Start Wesley as Safety, and Atkins as a LB. Atkins only job will be to follow James all over the field. Will be adequate in run support and fast enough to stay with him on pass routes.

I can't argue with most of what you posted, but consider this.......

Gunther has been very smug and closed mouthed about the offense and personnel. No game planning during the pre-season has frustrated us, but it might have the same effect on the FIRST team that has to play us. I like the fact we get Indy in the first game and not in the 6th or 8th week. I expect to see us open up with TRich starting at HB and doing a lot of passing on the first series and then settle in to a runfest if we score some early points.

Defensively, we are undoubtedly going to get burned for a few big plays, but testosterone and noise will be the the item of the day.

I know Chester did not play, they were resting him. Also Bush did not play much if at all (can't remember).
2 reasons, resting them, and evaluation of the players for Final cut. The D line was set as far as starters go, why risk injury? It was the back-ups they were checking out.

FYI lord help us if any of the starters go down, because I wasn't all that impressed with the back-ups

Big JOhn,

I was referring to the scheme, not the actual players when I made my prediction (sorry for the confusion)..... That soft zone and two deep safety coverage opens the seams up for Harrison (which is where it seems he scores most of his TD's).... Manning picks zones apart... sorry.

"I was referring to the scheme, not the actual players"

Fortunatly the success of the scheme depends on the PLAYERS, ie the starters. Thus I think that your point is not valid, UNLESS we are missing some starters.

Also from what I have read Indy's D is Suspect also, to the run. Thus I think we can beat them. Also as was just pointed out, the NOISE at Arrowhead will be a KEY factor.

Elway was a Great QB (man that hurt) but even he had alot of problems with the noise. Heck I remember him always whinning to the refs about it. And Peyton will be no different.

Chiefs win Big! Here is why.

The KC Line backers and front four will stop James muh like they did last year. Like last years game KC will give James a big run but that's it. The pass defense will look improved Hasty will lock up with Marvin Harrison and Hasty will win that battle. Game one also provides Warfield a ood day infront of the home crowd limiting his reciver to few catches. But most importantly Donnie Edwards will lay Payton Manning out! The Chiefs offense will open with a two Tight end set with Tony Richardson getting some serious yards, just when Indy trys to shut down T-Rich, Elvis drills one to Sly Morris for a TD. Gonzales and Drayton have a hay day going against Indy's week linebacking core. T-Rich will make rob Morris wish he was still playing in College.

Seriously considered your post when choosing the team that scores the most points for the week, in the pickem game. Indy scoring 66 is a lot of points.

No ill will intended, but thought better and picked the Rams instead.

Obviously the Denver Public Schools are a good argument for school vouchers.

Go back and read what was written this time and realize that no one is going back on anything, and no thoughts of anyone have been ommitted from the bb.

even the idiotic pro bronco ones are allowed...

"I erased the words of the third repeat and replaced it with what I thought would be a humorous explanation"

I will laugh harder next time if you just respond to duplicate posts as opposed to changing them.

If I may, a list of guidelines to be followed in the event of editing any of BroncoFan's posts -

a)Don't go after Romo(it has already been done)
b)Don't type in troll patrol (now that you have done it once, it will give you away)
c)Don't make fun of the broncos (it will probably come back to haunt you, at least this year)
d)Make sure you misspell something. (I always misspell at least one word a post)
e)If you can sneak it in, try and get Denver Public Schools vouchers.

I appreciate your thoughfull censorship!
I removed the third post so the moderator's judgement wouldn't be called into question by anyone else. Since you believe there is some conspiracy on this BB, surely others think so as well. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif So rather than risk further embarassment to the moderators and admins of this board, I simply removed the post. I agree with you, this Board is so corrupt, I'm going back to the other one, soon.

I am just giving Luzap a hard time, that is what I am here to do! I hate to admit it but I am impressed with a board which is managed by the people that use it. In addition, I really hate to admit this, all the members of this board are more than capable of making me look like an idiot! (although I try and hold my own) This board is actually interesting! But if you are going to start being nice and agreeing with anything I have to say, you are going to ruin this for me.

I will be back after the fourth game of the season after the Broncs have had their way with the chiefs and when you are less agreeable!

Colts - 31

Chiefs - 9

Three Field Goals by the Chiefs won't nearly be enough. It will be UGLY as one of the AFC's BEST will TROUNCE one of the AFC's WORST at home. I hate to say it but IMHO ARROWHEAD can't save the Chiefs in this one.

1st game of the season. A pre game memorial for DT. Everyone's pumped. Gun gives Raye the cue to open the their new can of WIDE OPEN offensive whoop *** ! We start the game off with 9 running plays resulting in three 3 and outs. Gun abandons WIDE OPEN offensive whoop *** . We run 9 more running plays.

Sorry, I'm a realist. The Colt's have a world class O and we have guys on D who miss too many tackles and no one to pressure Manning. Colts 40 Chiefs 10

Let me preface this by saying, I have been a Chiefs fan for 35 years. That having been said:

Indy 34
KC 10 (should have been 13, but Stoyo misses one.

Chiefs 30

Indianapolos 17

My pick: Chiefs 20-17.
What kills me is if the Chiefs do pull the upset, how many of the naysayers are going to hide for awhile, then pop back up saying "Go Chiefs". I don't mean the realists, and I don't mean other team fans; I'm talking about those with the "I've been telling you the Chiefs suck for years, but nobody listened to me" attitudes. Sure pre-season stunk, Grbac ain't showing much lately, and the coaching is lame. I don't care for JR much either, but he's what we got.

JQ ref #83 ( i think)

Bush also was not in, but will have to go check on what the starting lineup they played with.

As for the schemes, It does mean a different scheme, just players who are BETTER at running them, hence the reason they are the starters.

Chester & Bush are both good run stopers, which is what we needed.
