Ok all you head coaches out there.

It's 11:55 Sunday and the chiefs have won the toss. What to do? Take the ball and gamble on a good first drive and let the Colts have the ball first in the 2nd half, or kick the ball away and let the defense and the crowd abuse Manning while the pre-game hype is at its crescendo?

I like kicking away and taking advantage of the crowd noise on defense in this particular situation. Then hope they have to punt and give the offense a chance to start their first drive in decent field position.

I have always been a fan of taking the field with defense first, just for that same scenario you mentioned. The crowd will be at their loudest then.

Personally, I'm in favor of keeping Indy's O off of the field for as long as possible.

I want to get ahead in this gane... not have to play catch-up.

I absolutely agree! I think our offense might have trouble moving the ball. If our first seris is 3 and out, we give them good field position by default. On the otherhand, non-division team almost always stutter in their frist series at Arrowhead and get a flase start. It would bode well to kick off against the Colts.

I'd let Sauerbrun pound it into the endzone for a touchback! Then you'll hear the crowd roar!!!

If you have a chance to start on offense, you do it.

Which way is the wind blowing and how strong? What are the weather reports? Could wind direction change or increase? Could it rain & get sloppy in the second half?

The weatherman plays a part in my decision making process. I actually hope for another monsoon bowl but that isn't likely to happen. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yeah, Cash - we're going to post bookie's #'s on the BB. Why doesn't he just do it online? It can't be that difficult to find a bookie.

I would receive!! No question. No way would I want to run the risk of our poor Special Teams allowing Indy to set up from good field position. That team can score -- if they score early, they can settle the crowd down. The crowd is the ONE thing that tips the scales in our favor. If Indy quells the fire, we're doomed.

I would choose heads. If Phil Luckett was the referee, I would choose tails. After that, I would take the ball first every time.

I would take the ball. No way do I put Manning, Harrison and James on the field first with the possibility of them scoring quickly and silencing the crowd. We aren't a good come from behind team. Play to win - take the ball and score.

Sorry Cash, I misunderstood the question. In my own defense, your sentence wasn't structured too well. No prob, though - let's move on.

What chiefnj said. No way I give Peyton/Edgerrin/Marvin the ball first!

Our best chance is to score first, keep the crowd raging!!

wind, rain, fog etc not withstanding, I believe you go with the unit that on that day against that team is more likely to be successful on the first series of downs. IMO that is the defense at home, opening day, the B-2 has just gone over etc. I think you are more apt to score first riding that tide defensively to good field position for the offense. They are more likely to be successful coming out on the 30 or 40 instead of the 15 or 20.
