So Gannon to Rison ecked out the win in the ugly San Diego game. Thanks again for your cast-offs, it works for us. Here's the surprising and embarrassing inside story on the winning play (from The Santa Rosa Press Democrat):

Gannon found Rison in the back right corner of the end zone behind Chargers cornerback Darryll Lewis for the game winner.

Afterward, Gannon seemed surprised the play worked because it was a play designed for James Jett. But, according to receiver Tim Brown, Rison simply beat Jett onto the field.

"He had this deer-in-the-headlights look, which said to me, "What route am I running?'" Brown said. "I pulled him aside and told him because we were on the same side, and I don't want us to run into each other."

Gannon also said he was surprised the play was successful.

"I have no idea how it worked out, he wasn't even supposed to be in the play," Gannon said. "He ran a great route, they got confused, and he put a good move on the guy."

A note about San Diego....Those guys can be dangerous. I didn't know where to put SD in my preseason picks. Last season they wreaked havoc on the AFC West. Their defense plays like a pack of rabid pitt bulls, and it looks like they will destroy many a game plan this year when they are on. They will be the Disrupters on any given Sunday this year. Just hope it doesn't happen when they face your team. They were one game away from the division crown last year, and we will all have to wrestle in the dirt to keep them down this year. That is one blood-spittin', eye-gouging defense. Anybody that counted on a sweep of San Diego this year better rethink. You might catch them on an on-day and walk away bloody.
