Hello everyone! I'm sure about %0.0 of you care, but I'm happy to the point it's unhealthy!

As few, or none, of you know, I have aspirations to be a writer. Well, as fate would have it, I NOW OFFICIALLY AM!!! That's right, I'm going to be published!

No, I'm not bringing a little chief fan into the world. I'm not a daddy, as many lucky fella's in here are. But I've given birth none the less. I've written a poem, and it's getting published! Most may not care, but my words inside of a hard bound novel are almost too much extasy for me to convey.
Fan of poetry or not, a fellow chief fan is now officially a writer, and damned it, I'm too excited to keep it in!

This brings me more joy than.....well, almost as much as would a chief super bowl. I'm just sooooo happy I'm to stupid for words. I'm telling anyone who'll listen, and damned it, you poor slobs almost feel like extended e-family.

I'd buy you all a beer if I could!!!!

Thanx guys! Book will be out winter of 2001 (whenever that is.) It's called "Nature's Echoes."

Cheesy, 'eh!?!

Oh well, published is still published. And I can't say I'm not happy as hell. Most in here probably don't dig both poetry and football, and I wouldn't be surprised, but it's an undescribable feeling to have your own words printed in a hard cover book fer' all ta' see.

'Can't wait to see what it feels like...

I'll read it as long as you don't claim to have invented poetry.
Congrats!<BR>

Congradulations Brad. Its always refreshing to see someone reach a goal through hard work and persistence. Poetry is great. For your next book you should write a compilation which conveys the frustration it is to be a Chiefs fan 'lo these years.

Hmmm, what the hell rhymes with Grbac?

Congrats Brad!!! I'm sure that your one heck of a great writer to get published. The publishing company must put out a lot of money for this so it is a big risk for them. For them to have chosen to publish your work is a HUGE accomplishment. Again, Congrats!!

The closest that I ever came to your accomplishment was to have one of my Writing Professors in College share one of my poems with his classes. That felt great, but I can't imagine how you feel.

If you can, maybe you could share one of your unpublished works with us?

Congrats Brad. I've been published several times in an Oracle mag so I know what you mean about the 'rush' of seeing your name in print.

Enjoy the ride and be sure to have 'em punch your ticket for the next go-around.

I wonder if Poe was this excited the first time he was published?

Congrats, Brad! That's quite an accomplishment! I'm sure your family is quite proud!

Congrats Brad !!

That is quite a great achievment! I like to dwell in poetry, once in a while. Normally just spinning nonsense at home, but I can rip a few here and there. SO, I know it is not easy.

I like the idea of a Chiefs poetry book, I bet quite a few of the locals on this board would buy a copy. Maybe make it more general like the Dilbert-type comics. You know for the Football crowd, with a poetry spin.

Hummm, I will have to mull this over and maybe spin a little Chiefs stuff.

Anyone else want to try- it might be fun

Brad,

Having had a short story published before there are three really neat times when it's hard to describe the feelings that you get.

a) when you get your story accepted.
b) when you look at the bookstore shelf and see your book sitting there and
c) when you get that check! http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif

Congratulations!!!

Whoooo hooo good job.

But now your making me feel bad. A freind of mine an artist type has been trying to talk me into writing the dialog for her comic book for over a year but I've never made the time.

Rod
Rather childish could probably write a comic book.
Any money in that???

AustinChief

Rod,

As a writer of comics off and on since 1992, there's a lot more work involved than you might think. It's very akin to writing a script of a play or a tv show. You have to develop the pacing to make the action flow from one panel naturally to the other. I find that my classes I took in college when I was toying with a Broadcast Journalism degree help a lot. I tend to storyboard while I write to try and figure out exactly how many panels I need to get the main point I'm developing across.

<rant> I don't understand why people who write books are looked up to, and people who draw are looked up to, but if you combine the two talents it's automatically "inferior, childish" product.</rant>

Rod,

BTW, if your friend needs a co-writer, I'm in the market for a new challenge http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

I remember the first book I published, lots of work. The bad thing for me was I was out of town when the books arrived and had to wait 3 days knowing Chilton had Fedex'd the books to my house. That was like waiting for Xmas! Congrats I know how you feel!

Wow, never thought I'd get this much response.

First I'd like to say that, however corny, I got my vocabulary and reading skills as a kid from comics. Incredible Hulk to be exact. The writing is sometimes impressive, and I can't think of a safer and more imaginative way to get children into reading. No nudity, and almost no language. Wonderful tool to teach the youngsters the joy of reading.

Secondly, I'm only getting one poem published in a collection. I get a short blurb to inform everyone of myself and the poem's meaning, but I personally like to leave the meanings open to interpretation.

Third, I'd love to share my poetry with any interested. My email is CAUDLE35@aol.com

Anyoen who'd like to read any just email me and I'll get back to you with a different one a day. No, I can't send what's getting published, and no, I'm not officially getting paid. I won a contest and can win from 1,000 or 10,000 or 50,000....So, I sit with fingers crossed.

And I'll come up with something for the red and gold!
