View Full Version : The Republican Prince Charming LIED through his teeth!!

Ahnold the terminator, the alleged Republican governor of Kahlifornia set the tone, the other day, for the festival of bold-faced lies that is the GOP convention. He told us about how he decided to become a Republican. Here's the account of his story as closely as I can quote it:

"I had just arrived in the United States in 1968. I did not know any English, so a friend was translating the televised presidential debate, that we were watching, between Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey. I found myself agreeing with Nixon and thought Humphrey to be another socialist as in where I had left to come here. So right then and there, I decided that the GOP was my party."

Well, thats fine and dandy. Except for the fact that THERE WAS NO PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES IN 1968 AND 1972!!!!

Not to mention that the very respected Hubert Humphry WAS NOT a Socialist. But hey, smearing of good statesmen is free these days.

Just like the "Swift Boat Veterans for Money," we are treated to another fabrication of history by the Republicans. :shake:

Here's an excerpt from the link below:

"In the weeks leading up to the 1964 election, President Lyndon Johnson was well ahead in opinion polls and saw no reason to debate his Republican opponent, Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater. Richard Nixon also refused to debate when he again ran for president against Vice President Hubert Humphrey in 1968 and against South Dakota Senator George McGovern in 1972. No one could accuse Nixon of miscalculating when the results of those elections came in."

Actually, your quote is wrong. Here's the real quote:

I finally arrived here in 1968. I had empty pockets, but I was full of dreams. The presidential campaign was in full swing. I remember watching the Nixon and Humphrey presidential race on TV. A friend who spoke German and English, translated for me. I heard Humphrey saying things that sounded like socialism, which is what I had just left. But then I heard Nixon speak. He was talking about free enterprise, getting government off your back, lowering taxes and strengthening the military. Listening to Nixon speak sounded more like a breath of fresh air.

I think that he might be misremembering Nixon's campaign themes from that year.

1968 was very tumultuous, RFK and MLK were assassinated, there were riots in the streets, war protests became a real concern. The Dem Convention was a mess.

With Black riots in the North and the once segregated Democratic South dissatisfied, 1968 was the first year of GOP's embracing States Rights to pick up once Democratic segregationists.

"Law and Order" and "State's Rights" were Nixon's campaign themes. and how exactly was he planning on strengthening the military when the military industrial complex never had it so good with the war in Vietnam.
Running at full capacity and a draft in place.

I doubt that Nixon spent too much time talking about getting the government off of people's backs when he was promising that his government would round up the unruly.

I would not doubt that Arnold chose to be Republican because of his point of view and that he might remember that Presidential race, but I just doubt that those "macro" themes were the issues in 1968.

Why are you Repubs so arrogant as to expecting an "APOLOGY?" Retraction and admitting my mistake was all I promised. I have done that. I said I was going to watch my own tape. I know the Bush crowd is conditioned to have little patience and littler attention span. (How else would they be so total consumers of short sound-bytes rather than detailed issues?) But, as taxing as it is, try to read my post. Meanwhile, as it seems that you cannot wait to gloat on this rare and precious (for you) moment that you may be right and I wrong, I will hereby issue a qualified retraction. Now I am on my own time to find the tape. But once I do find it, and if per chance I had heard correctly, you will find me far more gracious than you have been. Transcripts are based on the original text of a speech, not the final spoken product. There are occasional deviations.

What an absolute mish-mash of words and nonsense...you could have just said, 'Yep, I was wrong about this', but you come back with this?

What in the hell is a 'qualified' retraction? Is this stupid thread so damned important that you cant just say 'my bad'?

If there's anything worse than an a-hole, it's an arrogant one.

How is that a lie Sherlock? I do post on other threads on this board. Half an hour? I must have checked 6 to 10 different threads (both forums) before I had to take off. Priorities vs time on hand my friend..... Try again. You are getting more loser-sounding (with no life and no point of view of your own) with each of your desperate attempts to 'catch me' (on an unimportant point, no less). I can see how all those times of losing arguments have put a heavy chip on your shoulder against me. You just simply can't let it go. Can you?........

Cochise, this really happened. Back when Keitzman was struggling for ratings he had all kinds of crazy stories. He promised us a break in a supposed national NFL drug ring with players like already indicted Morris and Vanover as runners for the drug ring. Denise fell for it hook line and sinker and even had the nerve to allude to the idea that DT could have been involved during the time he was hospitalized before his untimely death. She insisted it must be true.

A few months later after constant badgering she had the nerve to state that the stories could take years to break and she would retract her statement only after it was proven false.

So what you are saying is you attempted to originally create controversy with something totally menial and it blew up in your face?

I think you have it confused with the other thread.

In this one, Cranky 'quoted' Ahnold from memory and then attempted to accuse him of lying with the aforementioned contrived quote. When the actual quote was presented Cranky began to do more waffling than Aunt Jemima and still can't admit that he was wrong.

I did not know any English, so a friend was translating the televised presidential debate, that we were watching, between Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey. BOYS!, BOYS!, BOYS!, BOYS!... I've been out tending to life.

I think I have that speech on tape. If I do I will listen to it again. In case I misheard the word "race" as "debate" I'm man enough to admit my mistake. A courtesy I'm yet to be rewarded with from most of you in the numerous times that I have won the point... Remember? All those times when you resort to profanities in lieu of meaningful informed answers? Meanwhile, just so we won't get too off-target on the subject of Republican lies, change "Prince Charming" on my thread title to "Crown Prince" and read Cheney's lies, I mean, speech and then compare Secretary Cheney's defense package and the cuts he proposed to Senator Kerry's votes SUPPORTING the reductions Cheney wanted.

This is what I was talking about.

Were the tapes ever found? What happened? Was Frankie right or wrong? What happens when you eat pop-racks and drink coke? Does God exist? Who invented liquid soap and why? If you take an Oriental person and spin him around several times, does he become disoriented? When cheese gets its picture taken, what does it say? Come on man I need answers!!!

For those just joining this thread in progress:

After being told that his Ahnold "quote" was inaccurate, Frankie issued a lame, semi-retraction but promised to return to retract the retraction after he found the tape of the speech and proved himself right.

He not only hasn't bothered to find the tape, but he also ignored a link provided later in the thread that would have allowed him to hear the speech over the net. Instead, he has fruitlessly tried to spin this thread by pretending it is lame for his detractors to continue to push the issue.

I think it's safe to say that Frankie has been punked bigtime in this thread. Not so much because he made an error (because we all make mistakes), but instead because he refused to fess up to the error without caveat and refused to follow through on his promise to resolve the issue one way or the other in a reasonable amount of time.

It's over Frankie, it's too late to save face.

Personally, I believe you are overreacting. If the BB is that important to portray accurate work from non-paid mods, then the posters should be held to a higher standard as well.

In other words, get over yourself.

However, I altered the title back as I believe it should stand as it is. Frankie gave a false statement in the header and he has refused to admit thus. Therefore, IMO, the title is best served as an inaccuracy, at best, and tied to the author for future reference when others want ammunition for honesty and fairplay by the originator.

OK,

Now that the pitbulls have finally let go of this small and hardly significant bone, I choose to dig it up for you for further clarification.

A- I did tape parts of both conventions for "future viewing." Some of the taping I do never serve that purpose for lack of time. Often, especially if not marked, they do get recorded over. Wether Ahhnold's particular speech met that fate is now moot. I have not been able to find it.

B- I did try the cspan link that r8er-h8er provided. But a search within that site did not yield the speech.

C- My own on-line search brought up a text matching what Donger provided early on this thread. It verifies that the word "race" was indeed used as opposed to "debate." That is good enough for me to RETRACT MY THREAD TOPIC, which I hereby, officially do.

Having satisfied my obligation, I would like to direct your attention to the following facts:

1- That I was not the only one who mis-heard the speech. More professionally trained ears than mine, evidently heard it the same way. The following is to be found at http://www.globalresearch.ca/articles/CHO409A.html :

"While the media tacitly acknowledges that "the debate never took place", the matter is invariably dismissed. According to CNN Host Tucker Carlson in response to Larry King, it was an honest mistake because Arnie did not know English at the time:

LARRY KING: Tucker Carlson, there was one notable error tonight picked up by our vast production crew. Governor Schwarzenegger refers to coming to this country and hearing the debate between Humphrey and Nixon, Humphrey sounded socialistic and Nixon introduced him to capitalism. One little problem: They never debated.

TUCKER CARLSON, CNN HOST: Well, I don't think Schwarzenegger even spoke English at the time. So he could be, you know, forgiven for making that mistake it seems to me. (CNN, Larry King Live, 1 September 2004)"

When one reads and re-reads the text, and with the consideration of how the sentences are structured, one cannot help but to believe that Prince Ahhnold is in fact referring to a debate and the use of the word "race" was either a fortuitous accidental slip of the toungue or an astute, last minute correction of the speech. That conclusion, however, is not enough reason for me to dispute his intention. MY RETRACTION STANDS.

2- In the course of my research, I did find another indication of the fact that Prince Charming may have been less than truthful. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/03/schwarzenegger.ap/ . That, I feel in a small indirect way, serves to award me some vindication.

PEACE.

I brought it back up AFTER it had "died down."What amazes me is that when you go to www.c-span.org (http://www.c-span.org) you can find anything within the past two months that was posted on the site. The fact that you waited until it was off the home page on c-span seems to indicate that either you saw the video and wasn't about to admit your shortcoming. In either case is was covering your error with time as to let it die down. This might not be fact, but circumstances seem to indicate you were ducking the facts due to your "mis-hearing" of the speech. I have bad hearing from many years around loud machinery as well as some unplanned explosions, but I was able to hear race and not debate during the speech.
