Shanny knew what we were all talking about last year after all--Portis is fragile...

Maybe the Donk fans who didn't believe us then, will believe it now...

Too bad for the Skins and Gibbs. :shake:

Oh great. Now even if Champ falls on his butt, Denver fans everywhere will be touting it as the smartest trade ever.

even more.

WOW that's shitty for the redskins
And a lot of fantasy teams....

Thanks to RJ for taking Ahman Green #2 overall and letting me have Tomlinson at #3... otherwise I'd stuck with Portis this year.

I'll be curious if Denver can replace the (now seemingly) injury prone Portis at RB.

If so, that trade turned out nicely for them.

I don't see anything about it on sportsline.

Where does it say Portis is out??

shaneo69
09-09-2004, 04:12 PM
Yup. Back when this trade was going down, I argued that Portis was not a top-flight RB because of a) his durability issues, and b) his fumbling problems. Got a lot of arguments about that back then.

09-09-2004, 04:13 PM
Well if true, that should get the Bronco fans in an uproar.

"Shanahan's a genius! A genius! He knew this was going to happen and avoided the problem by trading Portis away! All hail the clairvoyant one!"

It was on the site for a moment, and was gone after I refreshed it. I haven't seen it anywhere else, so I'm guessing it was either a gaff by sportsline or a cross-site script (geek term)

POST WHORE!!!

HolmeZz
09-09-2004, 04:14 PM
It said it at the top of the page. It said "Breaking News: Portis our 8-12 weeks"

Clearly someone was having a little fun with Sportsline.

It scared the shit out of me cause I have Portis in my main league and I don't have a starting backup RB on my squad.

Yeah... you think it's the same guy? Maybe his work just banned chiefsplanet.com....

And yes, this is definitely a hoax, even the D.C. sports talk guys are apparently dismissing it as one. There was apparently a fake article posted as a joke somewhere that was apparently accepted as a real news story by several news organizations... there was a Skins fan on one of their boards that posted the article and said he knew it was a joke before CBS or anybody else even picked it up. Somebody pulled a real nice hoax. A Cowboy fan I'm sure... :D

This guy will be a disappointment in DC I believe...he doesnt fit Gibbs's counter-trey offense at all and is too fragile......he should have stayed in Denver where he fits their cutback O-line running style...he would have put up Terrell Davis like numbers if he would have stayed there..

Portis not injured, as reported by CBS SportsLine.com
Sept. 9, 2004
By Mark Swanson
SportsLine.com Managing Editor
Contrary to a CBS SportsLine.com breaking news bulletin from CBS Sports insider Billy Devaney, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis will not miss significant time this season with an injury.
CBS Sports, Devaney and SportsLine.com regret the error, which was prominently displayed on CBS SportsLine's home page for about 5 minutes late Thursday afternoon. It was egregious and, frankly, unforgivable, and we apologize to our readers, Portis and to the Redskins for publishing the misinformation.
Accurate information is a user and reader commodity we take very seriously, and this story did not meet those standards.
Again, please accept our apology.

They should be drug out into the street in shot.

Why, oh why, didn't we heed TJ's warning that this abuse would seep into the main forum soon?

I suppose that changes the whole "hurry and pick up Betts" strategy to help the FFB running back problem.

I would've liked to have heard where they got the rum0r from.
Apparently it was a realistic looking internet article created by a rival fan and spread through the newswires. Over on that Skins' forum, somebody posted it before the news even became widespread... but the Skins' fan who posted it knew it was a joke apparently, he even said as much in the thread title. Apparently the actual news organizations had no idea it was a fraud though....
