against our defense...

125 or thereabouts...

Line play is better, and guys won't make as many positional errors but, missed tackles will still be a problem.

That was pretty much my thought as well.

I think they will pound Davis until midway through the 3rd quarter and then Foster will get a bunch of carries and break a long one or two. Foster has more agility than Davis.

I think Davis gets about 80 hard earned yards and then Foster will put up just about as many on a lot fewer carries.

That was pretty much my thought as well.

Yeah, it's gonna take some time for these guys to tackle correctly on a consistent basis, unfortunately.

Hopefully, by the bye week we'll see some marked improvement.

18 for 80 yards. Yeah, that's right, you read it here first. I think we pounce on these guys early and put them into catchup mode.

He's a bruiser! Those 18 carries will really test our defensive line. You're right about playing catch up. If we can get ahead early, they'll be forced to play catch up like Monday night.

We have a history of problems with big backs. Even with a revamped offensive line for the Panthers, he will out rush Q from this last week. I am thinking in the 140-170 range (voted over 150).

Between 50-100, because Carolina has to replace 4 O-Linemen and Davis not a cut-back type of running back. Personally, I think Shaun Foster might be the one that could give us some fits instead of Davis.

Less than Q simply because he isnt the same kind of back. I also think we will get up 14-3 or something early in the game and force them to throw.

One can only hope.

What? We have alot more problems against small, shifty guys.

26 carries for 152 yards. But those stats are skewed because of the one 61-yarder. Other than that, we held him to about 4 yards per carry.

On another note, McCleon and Warfield will shut Steve Smith down this week.

The Chiefs held Jamal Lewis to 115 yards on 26 carries last year. It was Chester Taylor (a small, shifty back) who ran 5 times for a whopping 47 yards, boosting our total rushing defense over 5 yards per carry.

If they can keep his tranny in 1st or 2nd gear, we will do OK. If thet phugg'r gets to 3rd gear very many times it's going to be a long day.

In my opinion Stephen Davis tackles himself more often than not ie:going down without being hit.Foster is a better back but fumbles more often.Plus I lost all respect for Stephen Davis when Michael Westbrook pounded his face in and he just layed there and took it like a bit4h.

I'm hoping the D comes out with some TUDE this weekend. I'm getting mightially pissed off at all the jabs the D takes from the national press. Heard that clown on espn Sports Center last night call our D a swiss cheese Matador defense. But then the only thing to change that is for the D to step up. It's up to them. Their fighting for their pride.:cuss:

Agreed...it's up to them.

FWIW, the CBS Sportsline "experts" unanimously pick the Chiefs to beat Carolina.

Jeeez, not again? We need them to predict us losing...then we're in the SB no problem!!

I also voted 50-100 yards, just because I believe this D will hold him to about 60 but they'll have a collective brain fart and he'll get a 40 yd scamper, hopefully not for a TD...

We'll be lining up 18 defensive lineman, 12 linebackers, 7 Dbacks and Priest at the nickel. We'll stop him.

I voted same 'ole. We'll score more points, give up fewer points, but they'll get their yards. One week won't make that much difference. Chiefs win though, 27-24.

at this point, we have problems with big guys, small shifty guys, even guys that can barely walk 100 yds...

edit - oops, i guess i shoulda read the whole thread first...

Voted 50-100 because if Carolina is smart they will have Foster rushing a lot. Also voted 50-100 because even last year with our horrible D we only gave up 126 rushing ypg at home. 80 for Davis and 50+ for Foster sounds about right. I think we will be up a few touchdowns by the half as well.

Their fighting for their pride.:cuss: Incorrect use of their/they're... prepare for neg rep from Rausch.

10 yard penalty, repeat the down.

I'm afraid DeShaun Foster is going to rip us a new one... if he didn't have fumblitis I think he might be a better back...

I'm going 'Blind Homer' on this one.

We hold Davis under 50 and degut him on the field.

It's the home opener. The D did pretty well in the home opener last season against Tomlinson.
