NEW YORK (AP) -- Texas Rangers pitcher Frank Francisco was suspended for the rest of the season and two teammates and a coach were suspended Friday after he threw a chair that hit a woman and broke her nose during a game against the Oakland Athletics earlier this week.

Pitcher Doug Brocail was suspended for seven games and reliever Carlos Almanzar and hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo were suspended for five games. Jaramillo's suspension is scheduled to begin Friday night against the Anaheim Angels.

Unless appealed, the suspensions for Francisco and Brocail were scheduled to begin Friday, while the suspension for Almanzar is scheduled to begin Saturday. All four were fined.

Francisco's suspension will be for no less than 16 regular season games in the event of an appeal, said baseball vice president Bob Watson.

Francisco threw the chair into the right-field box seats and hit two spectators in the head on Monday night during Texas' 7-6, 10-inning loss. With two outs in the ninth inning, the Rangers' Alfonso Soriano tied the game 5-5 with his second homer of the night. Moments later, with Hank Blalock at the plate, the Texas bench and bullpen cleared.

Francisco was arrested and taken from the stadium to jail, where he was booked and his mug shot was taken. He was released about two hours later on $15,000 bail.

Jennifer Bueno, whose nose was broken, said Wednesday she plans to seek compensation for her injuries once prosecutors and baseball officials complete their investigation.

Earlier this week, Francisco's attorney, Rick Minkoff, said the player rushed out of the dugout to defend his teammates, and was pushed up against a fence in the crush of fans and players.

Francisco, 25, was the American League rookie of the month for August, when he was 3-0 with a 1.69

And.... this somehow caused a chair to magically levitate and fly into the stands?

Francisco should be suspended for 30-40 games, I don't think that's out of the question yet... the guy should've stayed above the insults.

I don't have the least bit of sympathy for the poor old woman and her boyfriend though. Maybe it's because I'm a Royals fan and I've seen the pinnacle of fan stupidity. If those stupid people don't see a dime of money out of this I'd find it hilarious. If you stood in front of that dude without the security of a ballpark and started talking sh*t like that and saying how he needs to go work with his family down at the Home Depot or whatever, you would still be getting a chair upside the head, and deservedly so.

The dick gets paid millions (at least a million) to play a damn game. Fans will say anything to screw with the opponents head. I have heard the Antlers say some below the belt crap before, and I know I have said a few things at Allen Fieldhouse that I am not proud of.

But it is all in the spirit of cheering your team. If he does not want to hear it, he should have chose to do something less public and lower paying.

He should be permanently banned from the MLB. Period.

I've said it before. None of us has a job that allows you to break the law and assault a customer and remain employed. Let this piece of sh*t play baseball in Japan.

I also think the stadium is partially to blame. It's ridiculous what they allow these fans to say. I wouldn't want my kid to have to listen to that crap. Security should make it known that slurs and vulgarity are not acceptable ways to cheer.

Agree!! These guys should be above it all, but they are only human. If I were getting insults thrown in my face you better damn well believe I would be kicking someones ass. He was pissed off, and lost his cool. Not a good thing, but a natural thing.

The A's are fully to blame, when the lawsuite comes out the Rangers should sue the A's for not giving their players protection when they asked for more security. The A's said, no.

And if a customer came to your work and started verbally assaulting you you can take action. Especially if you asked the management to remove the customer and they refused. This is all the A's fault.

Sure you can take action...but you can't assault them.

I'm not saying the bitch didn't deserve it. But just because they have it coming, that doesn't mean you have the right to give it to them.

See that's where our philosophy differs, you talk shit to me in person and we are having problems.. And if i am the rangers player, I am having a team doctor examine the womans nose, because during her interview the next day neither one of her eyes were black. You break a nose, you usually have black eyes...

Thats not a difference in philosophy, it's a difference in maturity. I used to be like you.

Either way, if you did it at work, you'd be fired.

Really, I bet i can change your thinking in about ten words in person. It is easy to push peoples buttons. Here is the game scenario in our terms.

You, come into my work.

Start verbally harassing me and do not stop.

I get management to remove you, they do not.

You keep verbally harassing me.

I kick your ass.

If anything i get to sue you and the company for not taking care of this problem. If they do fire I can sue for a unsafe work enviroment.

You forget verbal assault is a crime also...

At some point in your life, you'll realize that "kicking people's asses" doesn't solve problems, it creates them. Or maybe you won't. Don't forget the part of your scenario where you're standing in the unemployment line the day after you get released from jail.

Let's see if the pitcher sues anyone in this ordeal. Or maybe we wait until the police charge the hecklers with "verbal assault"....whatever the hell that is. Which law makes that illegal again, Judge Valiant?
