The set and presentation in general is just so ridiculous and over the top. The announcers annoy the shit out of me. And now... I don't know if WPT has always had this or not.... but, they have a "shot clock". How friggen retarded.

They only use the clock about once a year on the WPT. They used it this time because tit was a tourney of Champs. Hard to say the set is over the top when all it is is a damned poker table in the middle of a room with a small crowd. It only had the lights on it last week because of the clock that is not a normal thing. The announcers, well sometimes they are too much.

What show are you watching? They've got this weird.. I don't even know how to describe it... this thing... and lights going all over. It's just ridiculous. It probably wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the flashy bumps.

I guess I just like the WSoP. It ain't perfect, but I think they do a pretty good show.

All it is is lighting. they do have a spinning light deal but they is not doing anything when they are playing, its only going during lead ins back from commercials best I can tell.

You make it sound like the Starship Enterprise.

It's not like the poker you see at Binions but Binions during the WSOP that is for sure but far from being over the top in my opinion.

What they should do is have Shana Hiatt on more with less clothes on.

Shana Hiatt is smokin!

One thing I like better about the World Poker Tour over WSOP, is the fact that their shows are 1-2 hours long where the WSOP shows only run 1/2 an hour. WSOP cuts out a lot of the action sometimes it seems to fit in a half an hour.

Couple things.

1. The only did the shot clock the first season and everyone hated it so they said they'd never do it again. You've obv iously watching a re-run on the season one championships.

2. Yeah, the set it over the top, but you have to remember that this is not a regular poker tournament -- it's a made-for-tv game. The poker is certainly "for real," but unlike the word series of poker, this is designed for TV from the ground-up.

Huh? WSOP has hour long shows. And they would show two consecutively every Tuesday night.

Heh... here's something funny... the Iowa @ ASU game is delayed because of weather.... and it's not heat. Anyway, now there's a poker superstars invitational show on Fox Sports Net.

Oh, I know what the motivation is... but, it's cheesy enough to bug me.

Maybe this is a better way to put it:

The World Series of Poker is an event pre-dates TV poker coverage, and it's just simply a tournament that goes on and ESPN sends some dudes there to cover it -- like most other sporting event.

The WPT is a made-for-tv ordeal that wouldn't exist if it weren't for the cameras. Everything that goes on in those tournaments is done with the TV presentation in mind.

The game is just as good, and they players as just as good (often the same), but the presentation is totally different because of it's made-for-tv nature.

I imagine if you took a poll, most people would actually prefer the WPT-style show. Who knows, though.

As smeone who plays in casino tournaments regularly, it bugs me too. But, the attention that it has drawn to the game and the ammount of fish that are in my local card room these days means that it has some value. :)

I don't know why you tried to re-word your point. I understood it the first time. You're probably right about the poll.... at least, that's what the Travel Channel's hoping.

I just like the game. The other stuff is distracting and annoying.

World Poker Tour doesn't have so many rank amatures that will call anything no matter what the cards, just hoping to get lucky. The hot chicks bringing out the tray of money at the end doesn't suck either. And the tradition of the winner drinking an Anhseuser-Busch World Classic at the end is high comedy.

Heh, there is that. Course, since I'm shitty at poker... that's not much of a payoff for me personally.

Are you sure that's not only here recently since they were doing the "main event"? Maybe i'm mistaken...I think the WPT is 2 hrs, and the WSOP is only 1 hr. Hell, with Tivo it only seems like 30 minutes!

WSoP is one hour episodes.

Before the main event, they were already showing two episodes consecutively on Tuesdays, but each episode was a different event.
