There is apaprently a statement from Rather about to be released.
What do you think? Resignation? Apology? Retraction? "The documents were fake, but the story is true?"

Nope. No resignation.
I do expect him to "be on vacation" for a week or so very soon though.

STATEMENT FROM DAN RATHER:
Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY story about President Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, CBS News vowed to re-examine the documents in question—and their source—vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.
Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. I find we have been misled on the key question of how our source for the documents came into possession of these papers. That, combined with some of the questions that have been raised in public and in the press, leads me to a point where—if I knew then what I know now—I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question.
But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.
Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully.

:BS:Nothing is more important to him than promoting his agenda. He knew, he ran with it anyway. He got caught, now he is sorry.

As the rating slip away. CBS news credibility took a big hit.
Always questioned their half stories and biasing it by what is not said that doesn't support any of their story.
I never watch 'Rather Biased' anyway.

Lying POS. The only way CBS can make good on this is to release the connections to the Kerry campaign, and no way will they do that. CBS takes us for fools if we believe Rather continued with this charade for as long as he did just to protect Burkett. No f*cking way.

I dont for one second, believe this...
They are sorry the got caught...Anyone remember Rather's comments about those that questioned the documents from the beginning?
For at least 15-20 years the networks have been blurring the line and editorializing the news...this was flat out fraud and heads should roll.

If the ratings hadn't been in a nosedive there would never have been a statement of any kind. Now they're trying to salvage some vestige of credibility with the few people who haven't known them to be full of Raiders for years.
Rather personally vouched for the documents, then moved away from 'authentic' to 'true', now is trying to put the blame off on someone else.
But, IMO, if he was misled there is NO reason to continue protecting his sources. He should officially out the source immediately AND investigate the connections to sKerry. (yeah, right)
...CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.

These ones?
On Monday, Sep. 13 Dan Rather told CNN:
"I know that this story is true. I believe that the witnesses and the documents are authentic. We wouldn't have gone to air if they would not have been (sic). There isn't going to be--there's no--what you're saying apology? I want to make clear to you, I want to make clear to you if I have not made clear to you, that this story is true..."
