KC, Wiegmann close on contract extension

The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs and center Casey Wiegmann are close to agreement on a three-year contract extension that would be worth around $2.7 million per season. If Wiegmann and the Chiefs agree to terms of an extension, every starting member of the Chiefs' offensive line would be under contract through the 2005 season.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Wiegmann originally signed a six-year free-agent contract with the Chiefs before the 2001 season and has started 49 of a possible 50 games in a Chiefs uniform. Now in his ninth season out of Iowa, Wiegmann is considered to be one of the top centers in the NFL and the anchor of the league's best offensive line.

Did he have a player option to void the last remaining years of his contract?

Does this help next year's salary cap by using this years salary cap dollars? If so, that is a good use of our left over cap dollars.

Yeah, what can I say. Next time I'll just bump my threads to the top two or three times using nothing but banana smilies... then go buy an assault weapon.

Bump. Does someone have an answer for this question?

If they rework the contract to be top heavy starting this season then it would help.
