View Full Version : Gunther

It is becoming obvious that the coaching staff is holding back the development of great talent.
If Gun was to step down as head coach, who are the possibilities for HC
Would Gun go back to defensive C.
I think that with his eye for talent, that he would be a great replacement for Peterson?????????????????????????
Am I crazy?

Dom Capers for HC. I wanted him last year, but the Chiefs decided to go cheap.
WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GET GOING!
If he stepped down right now it'd be Shaw. Not much better, but I'd take anything right now that might ensure us of a completely new coaching staff next year. Unfortunately, we'll probably just promote another unqualifyed, 1950's style coach.

Maybe the sonofab!tch will quit for real this week.
I've gotta get off the board for now. I hate feeling and being this negative. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to see positives out of this latest life sucking abortion. For now, though, harsh reality is kicking the sh!t out of me.

My candidates would be Capers or Art Shell as HC with Capers doubling as DC. My OC would be Deberg, Infante, or maybe Marchibroda.
Another HC/OC posibility might be the HC at Stanford. The Cardinal hasn't had a great record but I think his O would be ideally suited to our talent.

I've seen what Capers can't do watching him here at Carolina. Art Shell is not HC coach material.
I would rather see us get Bill Cowher back here. At least we would have a decent HC who would get a REAL coaching staff.

Thanks Mark, I'd forgotten about Cowher. He'd also be an excellent choice.
Didn't Capers have some good years at Car before his team got old on him? I do know I love what he's done for the D at Jax (today notwhithstanding)
Art Shell has been a HC. Now whether the Raiders failure was due to him or Al Davis is another question.

I like the mention of the Stanford guy, how about Neuheisal at Washington, how about Kubiak from Denver. For god sakes, try something new, not another retread. Pam, I can't see a demoted coach doing any good for the team. And as for him replacing Carl, that would be one of those, anybody can replace Carl type moves, and that just isn't true. At best, move him into the player personnel, scouting, whatever. I do feel, though, he will remain in the NFL as a DC, which is more than any of HIS coordinators should be.

If Cunningham quits this year, then you are left with an underling until the beginning of next season. Frankly the thought of any of the stooges or their assistants in the pilot's seat scares the heck out of me.

Red - I don't think Kubiak would go to a rival.... But I was with you on that thought 2 years ago.
09-10-2000, 03:48 PM
Yea Wolf, I hear he is waiting for the Houston job, course, I hear that applies to Capers as well. An offensive minded college coach would be ok though. Or defensive, if we can come up with a good OC. You are also right about Gun getting gone, probably Shaw, which would be the lesser of the evils, but then we would give him a 2 or 3 year contract, and it would be the same thing over.

I know that it is not possible now, but I wish we had gotten Holmgren!!!
Cowher would be great!!! But do you really think he would leave the Steelers?
09-10-2000, 04:13 PM
make on offer to JOE GIBBS!
09-10-2000, 04:15 PM
Sorry, guys...Gunther isn't going anywhere...And I must admit, Pam, I'm surprised you are leading this charge.

I am suprised myself. I was thrilled when he was named HC, he was awesome as DC. But last season and so far this season has been disappointing. The only reason we (or I) was thrilled at 9-7 was because of the horrible 8-8 the year before. If we had not had that year, people might be looking closer at what is happening.
09-10-2000, 04:25 PM
If this is another bad season, Gunther should be gone, along with his entire staff. If not, it's another mistake by Carl.
This is my signature!! There are many like it but this one is mine!!
09-10-2000, 04:31 PM
Pam , if stoyo makes that field goal, we would've been in the playoffs...If that's disappointing in his first year, then you must not be in Gun's corner to begin with. Seems like you are going with the flow...
09-10-2000, 04:38 PM
No, you should know me better than to accuse me of going with the flow. Yes Stoyo missed the FG that cost us the game, but he is not the ONLY one that made mistakes.
But, I am hoping that we get the spiderwebs out of the way and have a great rest of the season.
09-10-2000, 04:45 PM
Excuse me, everything up to the point of that kick is irrelelvant....That was the game winning kick...Everyone else put Stoyo in position to win that game...33 yards.
You came on the boards asking people to be sensitive to the tragedy's your school faced tihs summer...Well, Gunther is HUMAN...He feels and can be hurt...I think it's a little shallow to be calling for his head, when he trying as hard as he can to win...

Tooln (post #12),
If there was a chance in hell of getting Joe Gibbs... I would jump on it!!! He is only 59 and would get us to a Superbowl... easy.
If we could have more Nascar races in KC... maybe we could entice him...
09-10-2000, 04:52 PM
Kyle - Big name coaches will not come to KC with the current GM. That is a simple fact.
09-10-2000, 04:55 PM
True...but if we could get him as BOTH GM and coach...
OK...I know I'm dellusional.
09-10-2000, 04:58 PM
Austin - That would be the way to entice Gibbs..... And normally I would disagree with the Gm/Coach theory (it hasn't worked to anymore success than the Chiefs have had for the last decade); However, Gibbs brings stellar talent to asst him in coaching. He could be the one singular GM/Coach that I would agree with today.
09-10-2000, 05:52 PM
Actually, I wouldn't mind keeping Gun... on the condition that we bring in a true OC with a balanced O scheme.
Gun can call the D, or find a DC that he can work closely with (as long as it's not a DC that will REMOVE all the pressure from an opposing QB when the game is on the line).
i can't believe that gun isn't realizing this already...
09-10-2000, 06:44 PM
I was not calling for his head, I was just questioning what would happen should he lose his job. I think he needs better assistants and he would be better.
I was just going on the assumption that if things keep going this way, isn't the coach the one that loses his job????????
I want HIM to stay and others to go. But if we lose Gun, then I want someone like a Bill Cowher or Holmgren ...

Are you Russ Bliss? if so, I'm going to make history and AGREE WITH YOU UNCONDITIONALLY.
None of the top-flight coaching candidates will come to KC and play third-fiddle to CP and his ego.
