The point is that people act like the draft is some sure thing and it's the only way you can ever land a top starting quarterback is to take on in the first five picks, and that when you do, you're saaaved!

Which is patently untrue. Odds are we'll draft one and he won't turn out to be a franchise player. Which doesn't mean we shouldn't draft one. But let's face reality at least a little. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and you aren't destined to fail just because you don't do it a certain way, or destined to succeed just because you do.
