****ing shit. Let me just comment on the absurdity of the thought that a fast food restaurant is somehow amazingly better in one state than it is in another. It's not like the ****ing warehouse where they prepare and freeze all the Popeyes food is sorting through everything and sending all the good shit to Louisiana.

Based on my experience in SoCal versus the experience of others around the country, there might be some truth to it.

I don't know about the prices elsewhere but a combo was at least $11.99 before tax so I spent more than $40 dollars for three combos, which when compared to other restaurants in which I'd spend $40 dollars, was complete garbage.

I can order huge Thai dishes with chicken that are $9.99, delivered, and last two meals, as just one example.

I think it was spicier in Louisiana, but that could be because I'm older and now very accustomed to Cajun seasoning.

That's a good point about Thai food. I can get Thai takeout in the Loop that will last me two lunches for less than $12. But if I get a normal fast food lunch it's generally around $10 for a single meal. Plus, the Thai food is better and healthier. I should do it more often.

I think Easy 6 made the best point earlier, it's not a regional thing, you just probably hit a shitty Popeyes. There's good and bad ones here in Louisiana. It's all about the management and employees. The food is the same.

You do have a hood point, though. Fast Food in general is no longer fast and it's getting pretty damn pricey. 9 times out of 10 I leave a fast food place annoyed. I'm probably just gonna stop going, and only eat at quality places.

Ugh. Their red beans and rice are purely mediocre. :shake:

Not sure why, but that one has never impressed me.

Because it's not very good.

Never had it, so no comment.

I just assumed it was bland like every other beans and rice ever made.

You've clearly never had good beans and rice then.

Their Red Beans and Rice is a gift from Heaven.

You haven't had anything good until you try Bojangles

Maybe it's the locations but I found it to be way overpriced and very underwhelming.

The red beans and rice and jumbalaya were garbage. Cajun fries were meh. The Cajun mashed potatoes weren't bad. I'm not a bread guy so I passed in the biscuit.

As for the main dishes, the chicken strips were mostly breading, the shrimp lame and their legs, wings and breast just meh. Without their Blackened Ranch, every thing was just bland.

I'll never go back.

You can't order their chicken strips. You need to order their chicken. Although I can't account for your garbage/meh sides.

I'm not a bread guy either, but Popeye's biscuits are top notch, IMO.

Back in my charter pilot days, through all my flying in the Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, eastern Texas, many of meals in small hole in the wall restaurants, and meals made by true blood "Coon-Asses", I have never ran into rice and beans that made me think "HOLY SHIT".

I did have some iron bowl crawdads and rice that some coon-asses in our Talledega camping group made that was good, though.

I've had plenty of experience, but my pallet doesn't respond to it like yours. No biggie, we are all made different.

They do have good red beans and rice.

Hammock Parties 09-29-2017 07:58 AM

You're not getting any real flavor at fast food places. It's just an overload of salt and fat.

If you think otherwise you're probably a rube who has never left the Midwest.
