Wacha gets to make his postseason debut in a must win game.

Lovely.

Matheny has some splaning to do. You go with what got you there. Baseball 101.

Ya starting Lynn over Miller in game 2 even though Miller has been dominant at home. And now the bullpen **** ups in game 3. Its just crazy that he somehow thinks he is smarter then the game.

Looks like he favored the left side of the plate by a couple inches but I dont see anything to get upset about.

What was the strike zone for the Cards?

I didn't watch the whole game but it sounded like from the announcers that he was pretty consistent about calling a strike on the outside to right handed hitters.

He doesn't think he's smarter than the game; you're giving him way too much credit. He's just a ****ing dumbass.

Even the TBS guys were aghast at the horrific nature of the strike zone. Brenly openly questioned it close to a dozen times.

Here's Kelly's zone. Note the massive difference on the same corner:

I really dont see a massive difference.

Hell... Kelly even got a couple strike calls that were half a foot farther off the plate.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-06-2013 06:24 PM

Kelly got the two worst calls of the day (for the starters), but a zone like that helps a pitcher like Liriano far more than Kelly, because you can't take marginal pitches, which means you have to swing at sliders that are bending significantly out of the zone. Similarly, a wind blowing 40 mph out would help the Braves more than the Cardinals, even though the Cardinals have a better offense top to bottom.

The missed ball four on Holliday was particularly damaging after the Beltran homer. Instead of first and third with not outs or first and second you have one on one out. That could have been a big inning. That said, take care of business tomorrow and I like our chances in 5.

Also, could we bump the regular season thread and let this rally killer fade into the abyss?

:cuss:SOB I really tried to believe that the pirates weren't this good. Our BP just shit the bed today.

Other than Wainwright, I wouldn't want anyone else on the mound. Plus, it's Charlie Morton for the Pirates, so I'm not really worried.

Mi_chief_fan 10-07-2013 08:14 AM

@DannyMacTV: Charlie Morton is 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA vs STL after the break. As far as the rest of the league, he's 6-0 in that same time. #scoops
