I personally think he should be shooting 3's over Selden. Selden to me reminds me of a stronger Keith Langford. That guy should be driving to the hoop.

What's with this Hunter Mickleson kid? Is he any good?

If you wouldn't have seen or followed Conner in high school, you wouldn't think he was this amazing shooter. I know limited sample size, but Wiggins and Selden were both better shooters than him. In fact, Frankamp was statistically the worst three point shooter on the roster and Mason and Franny took about the same # of threes. Some kids get to this level, and they never shoot that well in games. Hopefully he's not one of them, but the jury is still out on him both inside and outside of the arc. I was pleased with his defense, though, I don't know what KC Connection is talking about. He was way way ahead of where I thought he would be defensively. He's not lockdown or anything but he's already light years ahead of Tharpe.

I agree on his defense. He may not be as quick as other guards on the roster but he at least pays attention and gets to the right place at about the right time. Tharpe, not so much.

Can't move his feet quick enough or keep anybody in front of him. There's no way he can guard an effective ball handler right now (not that Tharpe can either).

If he was as good as defense as you suggest, Self would have played him way more than he did this year, but that too unfortunately was also a weakness.

It's going to be fun to see what Coach Hudy can do with these freshman that are staying.

Shogun 03-24-2014 08:26 PM

Another season with Embiid for Hudy would have him in top shape and injury free. IMO. His health and development will be better for him if he stays. If he lives up to expectations like he should. He will still go high in the draft. But, he has a place on an NBA team like yesterday.

Eh, when he was guarding Randle, he was getting beat like a drum until they subbed Mason in and changed the assignments. He didn't get beat a lot prior, but I'm not really sure why. There were a lot of good guards he defended that didn't really go after him. I don't know if he didn't make the scouting report or what, but they should have at least tested him. Didn't really happen to my recollection until the Stanford game.

His senior year was pretty damn good. There's absolutely no reason why Tharpe can't do the same thing. He's not as speedy or as talented as Tyshawn Taylor, but he can absolutely learn to play smarter and more grounded basketball.

Tyshawn was physically gifted from the moment he set foot on campus. He made mistakes, but you could always tell he had ability. Naadir does not have the physical abilities that Self usually loves... I just don't get his infatuation with the kid... it's out of the norm for him.

I love Hudy and she may be the best in college, but I think its hard to believe that she could do as good a job as the professional trainers in the NBA who make more money and don’t have limits on their access to the kids.

Prison Bitch 03-25-2014 08:57 AM

We should fire Hudy and bring in a jump shooting coach. Since, as you know, our guys are all bulldozers who cannot shoot and that won't win in March (as we've seen time and time again).

About time to start rooting for someone else, bitch.

You keep saying this, and it is not true.

We've never really valued the ball well but we were able to offset it by excelling in other areas. Let's take 2008 for example: we were awful in turnovers (289th in the country). This was offset by being #2 in FG % and #14 in 3-pt % for an effective shooting of #4. We could shoot lights out so the turnovers didn't matter. In addition we stole it like crazy ranking 18th in steal rate.

The team lately has been turning it over but not stealing it or shooting well from deep. We were #187 from deep this year, that's pathetic. We cut turnovers down to #101 but steals fell off the cliff at #232. So our guards couldn't shoot, and they couldn't defend. Nice.
