If you're hurting, go get diagnosed. If you're using and it's affecting your life negatively or you're thinking about going out again, go get treatment. We need you in recovery. We don't know how many people like Williams are going to die today. We just know that he's a headline tonight.

Thanks for sticking it out as long as you could, Robin. We'll miss you.

We lose at least one great comic to suicide or ODs every year. Our jobs are to communicate, but we seem to not know how to ask for help.

This sucks more than many celebrity deaths.

Not because Robin Williams was so talented but because a person who delivered so much laughter was ended by so much sadness.

I used to be one of those people who said things like "just call someone" or that suicide is a coward's exit. Last fall, one of my good friends, one of the most faithful, caring, selfless, giving, compassionate and charitable people I've ever known became so saddened and convinced that his family and world would be better without him that he shot himself.

I just couldn't fathom that this person did that. Not him. For all of the money in the world I'd never have guessed his name if given 1000 chances. He did therapy, medication, and all of the things he was supposed to do, except conquer depression.

That disease is #2 to cancer on my "screw you" disease list.

Someone in his family sent me a link that they said very much explained his struggle in a way that they hoped helped people understand what it was like for my friend.

As has already been discussed here the mental diseases are scary dangerous. I have an ex-girlfriend who has been diagnosed with bipolar disease. She thought she suffered from depression. Turns out that was just an on again off again symptom. And there were many times she talked about suicide, usually when she was very drunk from trying to self medicate her depressed state. She got hooked on meth for a while, abandoned her apartment to go live in some house where people where keeping her supplied with it. I and her mother finally managed to break through to her and slowly got her to the point where she got out of there and eventually diagnosed. She seems to be doing better now with some meds to help balance her out but, you just never know when something could happen that sends her on another downward spiral. You can just never let your gaurd down these mental diseases. Something that affects the way you think is not something with which you can ever let your gaurd down.

I'm sorry for your friend and your loss. It's not fair but suicide affects the survivors more than the victims.

What horrible news to wake up to? RIP Robin. You were by far my favorite comedian.

Does anyone see the irony in this thread vs the Junior Seau thread? Seau was bashed hard on this site from those calling him weak and a coward for his suicide. Yet we can take that same situation for someone in a different light and look to cherish that person and display empathy?

Depression is real and it's really hard to deal with. If anyone gets so bad that ending their life is thought, they have my greatest sympathy. I for one am very happy I am mentally stable. I'd take a physical disability any day over a mental illness. I have no idea how I would deal with thoughts I couldn't control.

But either way, depression is real and so is suicide. All the money in the world cannot change your brain makeup.

I think it would be different now. We know a helluva lot more about concussions and how it effects you. People get depressed and they don't understand why.

Shooting yourself in the chest tales a lot more courage than the head.

He died two years ago. That not an eternity. And that thread on Seau was sickening to read. So many dumb, ignorant people who I am glad aren't showing up here but also kind of ironic that Williams is being remembered and Seau was being hated for the same thing.

Gotta be honest, anger is gonna control for me for a while in this instance too.

To this day I can't laugh at a Richard Jeni routine, even though they are genius, because he decided to take it all away.

Right about now, even the idea of David Cross as Mrs. Featherbottom brings bile to my gut. How ****ed up is that level of a theft of joy from the world?

Seau was a division rival.

Nice attempt at trolling but everyone knows you're smarter than that.
