I've seen Cancun, Jamaica, and Puerto Vallarta, hardly great places. While I'd hate to live in shitty cities like Houston, Denver, Dallas, Loserapolis, Chicago, Miami or Atlanta, those cities sure do offer their citizens a lot in terms of going on vacation without having to deal with shitty layovers.

So far it looks like we spent a shit-ton of money for an overgrown regional airport.

Any direct flights to Belize?

It really is a fantastic airport. We are like a real city now. It's not too big and has everything you would want for amenities.

Leads the nation in people just standing on the moving walkway, but otherwise its a great airport

I was actually hoping to hear that the ~$1.5B had resulted in drawing in some substantive economic business that I hadn't heard about but I guess having Clear (which I use), a decent bar just after you exit TSA (which I use), and moving walkways (which I don't use) are pluses.

I did have a pleasant shite at KC airport. Very roomy cubicles which was a huge plus. Credit to the toilet attendants because it was spotless and I could have eaten my $100 lunch off the floor had I wanted to. There is also hands free flushing for added cleanliness. I left a bit of a mess but that's because I'm English and dirtying public toilets is part of my culture. The one negative is that the toilet paper dispenser is a bit too far away from the loo.

I never got round to taking a dump at Kohl's but it's up against stiff competition. It will be hard to top my defecation experience at KC International. Kohl's is one for the bucket list.

Did you use the gender neutral rooms?

I would guess that stuff takes time, too... doubt anyone seriously thought the minute they built a new airport, they'd become an international hub or anything. I'd imagine 2 years in terms of major routes and what not for airlines isn't necessarily a long time either.

And no matter what bullshit politicians spewed, I'd think the general thought was the old airport was guaranteed to never change the status quo, while a new airport gives the airport a chance to expand and provide more international routes (which apparently has already happened to some extent), etc.

I'm sure that % chance and timeline was overstated because that's what people do when they want to convince others to spend a billion dollars, but clearly the old airport was stuck in pre-9/11 days (and more like the 70s) and needed a huge upgrade.

And as a local, I loved the old airport, but now as an out of towner, I totally get why it needed an upgrade (granted, the one big improvement they could make now is moving the rental cars to the terminal instead of doing the shuttle thing).

I once absolutely destroyed a bathroom stall at Heathrow and couldn't even bring myself to tell the next guy in line not to bother, so I get it.

I certainly hope it leads, quickly to many more caribbean routes to places other than Cancun and Jamaica. Last August the son and I flen Air Canada to Toronto on our way to Egypt, so I guess that's cool, but they have a lot of gates on the south part of the A concourse (A12 - A20) that seem ripe for more use.

I would love to see flights to Cozumel, Roatan and the ABC islands added to international destinations. Until then, I have to fly through other hubs.

It's all good, I'll survive and the extra hops help keep my status at a nice level.

Where's the after pic?

If a guy shits in the middle of an airport and doesn't take an after pic, does it even make a splash?

mr. tegu 03-02-2025 05:06 PM

The bathrooms are the best airport bathrooms I’ve experienced by far. That neutral one especially is awesome. You get a full blown private toilet without any cracks or gaps and walls to the ceiling. Can’t beat it. Went from like 5 stalls post security to maybe close to a hundred. Very nice.

Did you do Egypt on your own or with tour guides? I've heard it's pretty extreme in terms of tourism bullshit and potentially one of those places where it's really worth getting local 'help' even if you're used to international bullshit.

It's a manic and crazy place (especially the driving). I loved it though. And yes, I'd recommend getting a "tour" guide. Otherwise it would probably seem a bit unhinged and more sketch to navigate.
