Assuming this is sarcasm, then who gives a rat's ass what he did before he took over in KC.

He accomplished exactly Jack in KC.

Hali is already being given authority to call where the D-line stunts are going. He's the quarterback of the D-line. WOW.

The NFL doesn't revolve around the Kansas City Chiefs though. I never understood that argument. That doesn't mean he was a success here, but as I always say, you don't forget how to be a good coach. The guy has more success than the majority of coaches that have ever coached in this league. That's not debatable. Doesn't mean you're going to have success 100% of the time, there are competent people everywhere that fail everyday. But being self-centered doesn't mean that the world actually revolves around you.

In this case I wouldn't fault him for crying.

Given the lack of hitting in KC for the last 5 years, watching a Chief actualy lay some wood might make me cry too.

Hammock Parties 08-26-2006 10:11 PM

Tears of joy.

He certainly didn't accomplish anything HERE. Like I give a shit about what he did/didn't do in St. Louis or Philadelphia.

I wasn't debating whether he accomplished anything here. I was debating the statement saying his philosophy of longer practices/aggressive play/etc. etc. ever actually worked.

And all of that matters, how?

Let's bury the past.

tk13 08-26-2006 10:21 PM

Is anyone actually paying attention? I thought we were debating how Martyball rarely ever worked, with anybody, at any level. And someone said Vermeilball never accomplished anything either, and I said that wasn't entirely true. It's not that complicated.

Every coach trys to manage the clock and protect the lead.
Even Dick in StL did it with Marshal Faulk and a decent defense.

It's the when, and how, that I'm talking about.

Martyball failed because he went into a conservative shell, on both sides of the ball to protect the lead early in the 3rd quarter.

It'd be one thing if they just didn't show it, but to show Parker getting hit and then NOT show one of the biggest hits of the preseason (with an INT to boot).... WTF?

Then to put me in an even better mood, they had a special "don't draft Tony Gonzalez" segment for fantasy players. Seriously, that's what it was called. Apparently he's not going to score any TDs this year. Someone let Tony know so he can just give up and save himself the trouble.

He's simply saying picking a TE that generally goes in round 4 that has 9 TD's over the last 2 years isn't a sound strategy.

But let's not forget 7 TDs in '04 with 102 receptions. And he had 78 receptions last year for over 900 yards. Still a great TE in fantasy IMHO. Not the first or maybe even second TE to pick. But still solid.

It is just fantasy football talk, anyway. Nobody is saying TG is no good anymore. Just maybe not the #1 TE. All that being said, he'll have more TDs this year. A lot more. I hope.

chrisdel 08-27-2006 01:50 AM

First drive ate half a quarter off the clock. Excellent. D looked much better. (Still just pre-season. D in previous Vermeil years looked good at times in pre-season as well.) Not so solid inside the 10. Here's where we will miss T Rich and Roaf the most.

Agree with you. But he still did nothing for the Chiefs and here's why. He was talked out of retirement by Petersen. His heart wasn't in it. I'm not saying he didn't care or didn't work hard when he was HC here, but what I am saying is that his drive here wasn't as strong as in Philly or St. Louis. He was working for Super Bowls there. He was working for a pay check and a favor to CP in KC. He brought a lot of credibility back to the Chiefs when he was here (so did Marty). But in the end, he didn't do much. I just wish that some Chiefs fans stop hating on him. He shouldn't have been hired in the first place because King Carl should have been fired after the Gunther hire. But that is a topic for another thread.

Um, you're reading something into my statement that wasn't actually there.

Vermeil's philosophy, IN KANSAS CITY, was to rack up records at all costs. And it didn't work. There were things Vermeil did here that he DID NOT do in St. Louis, and vice versa. There's a reason he won there and not here.
