Typical bar graph, year over year.... Starting in 2015 for no particular reason. |
I'm just one guy, but I'd be curious if there was a way to see if we could see the ratio of those lurking without an account to active users. As someone who was mainly a lurker almost daily for essentially the last decade, and finally decided to start posting, I'm genuinely curious how many more are like that.

Regardless, I'd be curious. |

Are there any accounts started in August 2000 that show still active but have zero posts for the entirety of their time here?

Somebody’s gonna get busted.

Does the board keep track of thumbs up/thumbs down? Aka which posters average the most thumbs up/down per post?

What qualifies as an OG? I'd like to see those numbers.

If memory serves, a whole load of you got sick of the KC Star board and started this place, right? |
How the hell have I been here a year and a half longer than DaFace? That feels like some Mandela Effect shit.....
|
I had a fun one in mind, but it may be too heavy of a calculation for the server to handle. I'm trying to find the biggest gap an individual user has ever had between posting, but that requires looking through the entire post table (~14m records), grouping by user, calculating the gaps between each consecutive post, and then returning the maximums. It's been running for about 5 minutes now with no sign of stopping.
Guessing I'm gonna have to cut it off, but it would be fun if I could get it to run... (At least it seems to be responding OK to normal traffic.) |

Heh, that'd be a good one......

Not sure if you can find it with the various database upgrades and purges, but can you locate the very first rep ever given on this site? From whom to whom?

Yeah, officially giving up on the post gaps one. Maybe some day if I'm willing to let it run overnight. ROFL

So that being the case, does the database not record or recognize any activity BEFORE August 2000, because I've never seen anyone with a join date of July 2000 (or earlier)....... |

Was working 2nd shift help desk at the time for Exel Logistics supporting in house software named TOPIX that was run on an IBM Iseries. Straight out of college and had all the time in the world at $15 an hour to cruise the net. How about most neg repped accounts that are inactive? |
GEE DONGER WHAT WAS HAPPENING IN 2020??

I'm headed out for dinner, but feel free to keep posting ideas. I'll play with these as I have the time.
(But holy hell, ChatGPT is REALLY good at generating queries based on plain text instructions.) |

It’s possible you’ve already done this, but I’d love to see an update of this graph in the Mahomes era. Did we get a boost? Or is it an inverted line where places like this thrive the most in misery? |

2000-2003 - Founding and rapid growth 2004-2013 - Continued steady growth 2014-2016 - The decline of the flat forum era 2017-2023 - The era of stability Beyond that, we saw our biggest growth spikes in posts in 2009 (frustration with the beginning of the Haley and Cassel era?) and to a lesser extent in 2020 (because WTF else did we have to to?) and 2022 (more to discuss with the revamped roster?). In general, though, things fluctuate a little bit from year to year these days, but I think we largely have our set user base, and it just goes up and down a little bit depending on what all we have to discuss. Anyway, here are the charts since you were interested. https://i.imgur.com/67AdSiC.png https://i.imgur.com/guVoqW8.png |

For this, we could define an active poster as someone who posted >=100 times within a calendar year. In-active poster being someone who has posted <100 times within a calendar year. Also, the mean users looks promising as it seems the forum isn't declining in people who view it when compared to previous years. 2019 maybe elevated due to the interest surrounding the team and the chase for the first ring with Reid/Mahomes and 2020 being an anomaly. |

In an era long past the great exodus from online forums to Reddit and social media, it’s incredible that you’ve been able to retain the retention that you have here. Hats off, y’all.

Man this just reminds me I've been here so long.
|
Going back to one of my intial questions I wanted to dive into, of the 234 users who were active in 2000 (100+ posts in the calendar year, which is an admittedly high bar since it was less than half of a year left) there are 53 who have 100+ posts in the past year.
So roughly a quarter of the folks who got this place off the ground 23 years ago are still here. That's actually pretty incredible. |

This one's actually super fascinating (and is definitely an angle that I'd never realized until now). Here are charts that look at our total yearly posts by subforum.
https://i.imgur.com/YVnasNf.png First, it's interesting how consistent the Lounge post rates have been since 2016. I think we must have all just chilled out at that point. It's also enlightening that DC actually makes up around a third of total posts around here. (No wonder Kyle doesn't want to get rid of it...) It was even higher in 2020 for reasons I'm sure we can't understand... Anyway, this is what I like about this stuff. You never know what interesting perspective will come from digging in a little bit. |
CP lost its burst when we started running out of shit to complain about

That catches a lot of the yarn posts... and then searches for giphy, gfycat, tenor would capture the vast majority of the rest ("giphy" was 500+ going back to 2018 in the regular search tool). |
I was in high school when I made the switch from KC star lurking to Chiefsplanet. I never created an account though because I just wanted to read and noobs were treated like noobs. Finally decided to make it official in 2014.
