Spoiler!

Wallcrawler 03-18-2023 09:07 AM

I think we can all agree that what we are most excited to see is how Manny will be written in the show.

As you know, in the game, Manny was Mexican, and the player needed to be constantly reminded of that fact, and through Druckmann's utterly brilliant writing, he accomplished this by having Manny use only one Spanish word during his time in the story.

Pendejo. Yes, the ultimate reminder that this is a Mexican character. I think I lost count of the Pendejos uttered by Manny at around 65 times.

Spoiler!

Cool. Then post it once or twice. Dude is just repeatedly shitting all over the thread with the same thing....over and over and over.

It's cool...you didn't like TLOU2. You aren't alone in that but it literally has zero bearing on your life.

But what did I expect? WallCrawler literally shits all over every thread he's about like he's some ****ing expert on EVERYTHING.

Feel free to scroll past the criticisms, Neil....er...The Franchise.

This is a discussion on how season 2 will be received by watchers of the series, and how if it follows the game (which it will, Druckmann can't take an L on his prize piece of shit revenge project he wanted to do since college, but was shot down at every turn by anyone with a modicum of common sense, and only when those people with moving brain cells left the company and Neil rose to VP and instituted groupthink over common ****ing sense did he get to have his way) then the fan backlash will be tremendous.

Perhaps instead of reading the criticisms I have about the terrible decisionmaking, writing, direction, and incoherent order of the storytelling that make you sad, maybe go enjoy a Neil Druckmann interview.

Perhaps the one in which he describes weeping at his own work. That always brightens my ****ing day.

In any case, the structure of season 2 almost has to change. You can't repeat the same mistakes of showing half the story from one side, and right at a key moment, stop the storytelling on that side to say

BUT WAIT! Let's now take a few episodes to see how we got here!

There will be no stakes, no tension, because viewers will already know where a lot of these key players end up.

Like I saw character A talking to character B on day 3, so when character A is in what is supposed to be a tense life or death moment, it falls flat, because I already know that character A makes it to talk to character B later.

Its going to have to fundamentally change. It can't become the story slog that the character switch in the game was.

There weren't any problems with season 1 and it was pretty much universally loved by everyone except the worst douche trolls that have to find something wrong with everything.

I'd say the only criticism is there wasn't enough of it. The pacing was pretty breakneck especially in the last 2 episodes. Also the lack of infected in a lot of episodes.

ThaVirus 03-26-2023 09:27 AM

I will say that, yeah, my biggest issue was how quickly it all went by.

I thought we could have seen more between Boston and Kansas City at the very least.

That’s my only issue for how they did season 1, they spent over a year announcing it, I understand with the history of video games turned in shows not doing well they were hesitant to throw a bunch of money at it, but they did such a good job it’s a bummer it wasn’t twice as long.

There are already a lot of complaints in this very thread about filler episodes. Unless they get attacked or in some wacky hijinks at every stop there's not a great way to stretch it out much further.

The Franchise 03-26-2023 10:01 AM

There’s only so many episodes you can have of them sneaking around infected. Could they have shown it more? Yeah. But it would have gotten old quick.

I can agree here but it definitely was still really good to great. It definitely felt rushed more towards the end. Still love it and hope season 2 is a little more fleshed out.

The Franchise 03-26-2023 11:23 AM

I really wish they would have had the Firefly’s find Ellie and Joel like they did in the game.

Shit, I never get tired of zombie stuff lol

I agree in general, though. I’d have liked to see more infected, more sneaking around infected, more apocalyptic urban backdrops, more raiders and marauders, etc. Unfortunately the budget wasn’t cut out for all of that and people would have complained about it being slow if they focused on character development moments so it’s not a big deal for me.

Otter 03-26-2023 04:37 PM

Finished watching the series and can say it honestly did not reach the high ground for me that this thread lead me into expecting. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad by any means but the hype is WAY overblown.

I'd put right with The Walking Dead season one popcorn fun. They need to put a cape on Joel just make him a little more super human.

6/10

Series was pulled off incredible well and follows the game to a "T" with several twists incorporating the DLC and a story with Frank and Bill that was not included, but eluded to in the game. This series was incredibly well done and I enjoyed it thoroughly! :thumb:

PLAY THE GAME! Then reflect on the series. The Last of Us is a top all time game for a reason.

Episode one started out awesome, the escape scene in the truck was incredibly well done, loved how the camera seemed to put you right there in the truck as all the mayhem broke out

But when they skipped forward 23 years I had to go looking for a recap to figure out what I was seeing, who all these new characters like Tess were, etc

The next two or 3 are a bit fuzzier due to the vodka :D, probably gonna have to rewatch them today to stay in the loop going forward

Easy 6 04-01-2023 02:24 PM

Just a couple nitpicks are...

Episode one when the soldier catches them near the river, he probably isn't gonna be alone

Episode four, and the Walking Dead was guilty of this as well, where he's siphoning gas out of 23 year old cars... uh no, gas isn't viable after that amount of time even with stabilizers added to it

Easy 6 04-01-2023 05:40 PM

So the arcade at the mall is still open 23 years later?

I'm always willing to buy in for a good show, but don't press your luck lol

The Franchise 04-01-2023 06:37 PM

Dude…there are zombies. You should probably not take it too seriously.

They are straight out of the game. Went into great detail to try to build them exactly as the setting of the game.

Yes the entire Ellie/Dina relationship is a big plot point in the second game…

The dance scene is pretty damn accurate to the game as well.

Nothing was forced.

why is it "trying too hard"?

Is it outside the realm of possibility for two or three people to be gay in a community?

Look, it doesnt do it for me, but it's not distracting from the story - as a matter of fact, it's damn near shot for shot from the game.

It's forced over-representation of homosexuals to satisfy a narcissistic agenda.

Homosexuals are 1-2% of the population.

The show has shown us three gay relationships in 10 episodes. LMAO

In a post-apocalyptic setting, this is extremely unlikely, comes off as forced and takes you out of the story.

I'd be fine with one. I'm not a homophobe. But what they have done is just cringe. Fortunately the rest of it is good enough that I can power through it.

it's a silly thing to get hung up on, for sure.

And as I mentioned, spot-on accurate from the game.

If that element is too much for some, it's easy to just not watch (though they'd be missing out on probably the best story ever told in a video game).

You’re not a homophobe but you find two girls’ kissing “cringe”?

It’s unfortunate the creators of the ORIGINAL ****ING GAME didn’t have more incels in their focus group so that they would’ve understood that they overshot their quota of one gay interaction per ten episodes.

That two-minute sequence really required a lot of grit to “power through it.” LMAO

You spent years sucking off Nick Athan and making up lie after lie with him because you crave attention. You then bailed on him, but decided to slither over to your Facebook friends. You let your mentor Nick take all the heat from the lies you two made up, but instead of cleaning up your shit and growing up like most people do you got worse.

Youre a full blown incel because your mom didn't give you enough love. Kinda sad really.

He's such an incel troll that he probably didn't even watch the episode. He knows that there is going to be gay/lesbian stuff in the show, because the main character is gay. He was waiting for the chance to troll. He's just in here for the attention he knows he will get for talking shit on a very popular show.

Clay what would you identify yourself as first?

Troll
Incel
Homophobe
Attention whore

Nick Athan can be referenced in any thread that Clay is sliming up. They used to be like Siamese twins, where one was you would always find the other. They were formally known as Claythan before the big split.
