He only has 222 total innings in the minors but his ERA overall is 3.24. He'll be 26 this year and some say his stuff is the best they've seen. If that's true, I hope he forces their hand and makes it to KC.

And if Alex Smith finally starts throwing downfield the Chiefs can win a Super Bowl.

Zimmer will never be healthy. Health is a skill and Kyle Zimmer doesn't have it.

That's where the breakout performance comes in. Every championship team needs an out of nowhere performance from somebody. Last season's obvious example was Kyle Hendricks. The Royals, if they win a championship, will have one of those (and probably a couple).

I know where you can find a DH and can save on moving costs. Just a nice little U-Haul trek down I-70...

That is where a Chris Young is effective as that sixth starter and long relief guy.

Um...'Chris Young' and 'effective starter' aren't words I'd have in the same sentence at this point.

There's an argument to be made that Chris Young had the worst season as a starter in major league history last year. Young is the only player in baseball history to accrue more than 50 SP innings in a single season with a FIP Minus above 190.

He was worth nearly 2 losses in a mere 58 innings as a starting pitcher last year (though had some positive value in relief).

And let's not forget that he was on the scrap heap some time ago before the Royals salvaged him. The 'salvage' was the likely blip as he's only gotten older and less sharp since.

If Chris Young is throwing innings as a starter for you, things have gone horribly, horribly awry.

At this point, if Zimmer is staying healthy to start the season, then I think the Royals will shuffle him to the bullpen to keep as little mileage on his arm as possible.

No way of praying / hoodoo magicking / hoping that Zimmer makes it through Spring training healthy but also looking effective and making a change-of-scenery trade with someone?

Chris Young has no business as a starting pitcher anymore. He has two pitches, that's it, and one is a fastball that doesn't get above the mid 80's. You spot start him only if absolutely necessary and pray he can keep you in it for five innings.

His value is as a one to three inning guy out of the bully, that's it.

Meh. These tributes are lame. He was a pretty good player but hardly a pillar in the community or face of the franchise. Most of our fans, not me, wanted him traded last year anyway

On one hand I'm glad they didn't overreact and give it to Ace out of sympathy. But Hoz? Is this player voted?

I should have said "relatively healthy." KC can afford a DL stint here and there or even a 30-day trip.

But if one of those guys blows a UCL or shoulder or etc, it's hard to see a path back from it.
